This is my fourth or fifth Outward Hound product I'm a huge fan of the brand and have always had great experiences with their products. Right up front, I want to urge readers to take the negative reviews of this product into consideration they are all fair (not the usual "this product suxxx") and should weigh equally as you decide on this product. I have not had any of the problems they mentioned (everything has held up nicely during use), but it does seem that quality control on this product was a little less than the usual stellar level I have come to expect from O.H. I would like to thank Boycott Boring and Kyjen for sending me a sample of this product to review they did so on the understanding that I would provide my HONEST feedback.

INTRO

Ok, so I definitely got some raised eyebrows from friends when I told them about the "doggy tent". I grew up with our family dogs being outdoor dogs, and though we provided them with a VERY nice wooden dog house, the idea of a special tent/shade just for them on family camping trips would have given my dad a laughter-induced heart attack! Still, this thing is pretty darn cool when set up, and serves an important purpose.

SET-UP

Mounting this shelter was incredibly easy it's about the same size as a children's play tent, and if you have set up a traditional tent before, you'll have no problems. Our first experiment was in the living room our first dog is a rescue and we wanted to introduce it in a comfortable environment. If you even SUSPECT that your dog might be weirded out by this product, I would highly suggest doing so. It took 20 minutes and plenty of treats, but she finally laid down and stayed in it. Our new pup (13 weeks old) of course loved how new and exciting it was! Moving it outside, each corner has holes for standard tent pegs, so now worries about this thing flying away with your pup in it!

MATERIALS AND QUALITY

Well, as with all Outward Hound products, the quality of fabric is very good. The ground sheet will stand up to your dogs claws, and is waterproof to protect from dew. The sides are not meant for rough and tumble, but match the quality of our family tent. The poles seem to be what everyone is having problems with. As I said at the beginning, I have had no issues after using this shade several times, but many other HAVE had issues. The good news? Replacement poles can be purchased to size from the better tent retailers, and not for crazy prices either. I absolutely agree that this shouldn't be necessary after paying for this product, but I wanted to highlight it as an option. Quality control lost this doggy tent a star, and I really would urge Outward Hound to go back to the drawing board on the poles, or at the very least change suppliers.

FUNCTIONALITY

Now as I said, this thing is a little extravagant. That said, when you're camping on a hot summer's day and your dog is on the ground trying to stay in the shade but getting bitten by passing critters, you'll wish you had something for them. This little shelter offers protection from the sun and heat, and serves to protect them from critters, dirt and yes, even wet ground. The slits in the tent are excellent for passing a rope through as long as you tie the leash higher up on a tree you won't put any undue strain on the slits. Now, this shelter is really only missing one GLARING feature...a way to enclose your dog. Now I know this isn't REALLY a tent, however for dogs that don't stay very well, a mesh closing with a zipper on the front would be so useful! It would take this shelter from being a place of shade to an all-night place of rest! I'm actually considering sewing zippered mesh on the front of the tent myself and seeing how they fare in it. I didn't take a star off because I received this product knowing there wouldn't be this feature, but I thought it worth mentioning.

OVERALL

Despite QC issues, I have had no problems with the shelter. It's super useful, big enough for our two pups to play in (25lbs apiece right now, but lanky) and definitely keeps the sun and critters to a minimum. One star was lost for quality control, and though I recommend this product, I do so with some hesitancy! It will be coming with us on our camping trip next month, but I might be making some modifications first! If decimal stars were allowed, I would rate this at 3.75 stars out of 5.

I purchased this tent for our medium size dog and she absolutely loved it! The tent material was nice and thick and we were sure we found the answer to bringing our dog camping with us without spending over $100 for a dog tent. The company was very nice when we contacted them because after several usages the poles snapped. Also the tent is starting to come apart at the seems. I certainly could resew it, however, the company stopped making this product so cannot even get replacement poles :( They told me that they had quality issues and have stopped making this product. All they can do is give you an equivelant product pricewise. Since they do not have any other dog tents, this is very frustrating.

First of all, you must realize that this is not a pop up tent, like I had originally thought it was. You have to put all of the poles into flimsy material , and while you do that, you have to be very careful not to break the poles. One of the poles bent and broke upon putting it together, which made the whole tent unusable. It would also be very time consuming to have to put this together and take it all down every time you needed to take it with you in the car. The whole purpose of this tent was to give our dogs shade during training or different outdoor trial events. This would not work with this tent, since it was not a pop up and way too flimsy.

The Kyjen dog tent is great. It is easy to set up and has great features like zipper closures and screen sides when you want to let air through for your dog. When you're done, it packs down to a really small size, making it easy to store. It's really cool. We will be taking it on outings so our dogs can just kick back in comfort.

The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the hood goes over my dogs face and she can't see. So I pinned it back. Also when she is super active the Velcro comes apart at the chest. I have a 35 pound pitbull and the large fits well. It's super cute on her and she doesn't try and take it off. Very good quality doesn't look cheap or like it's going to fall apart.

I started using this over 10 years ago when my older Border Collie started exhibiting dry skin and itching incessantly. It did what no other shampoo could: eliminated the dry skin and itching! I bought this on the recommendation of a pet store. My puppy has some itching and developed two small hot spots. Wanted a gentle shampoo to help with his itching until the oral medication helps him, and something to use long/ term. The first time I washed him with it, I thought I hadn't rinsed it well enough or something.

His fur seemed limo after a day and he still has a stinky dog smell that you can smell 5 feet away (other shampoos left him smelling good)

The next time, I left it on for five minutes , and rinsed it meticulously. That was yesterday morning and he looks unkept, oily and is very smelly. Going to try something else!

good lather. mild fragrance. fragrance doesn't last nor is it 'fresh' smelling -in my opinion. seems to calm skin only momentarily, even after leaving lathered areas soaped up a few minutes to take effect and rinsing in cool water. have stepped up to washing twice a week (per vet dr instructions and while skin flare ups last he diagnosed her with mild grass or topical/seasonal skin allergy as a result of pollen that Benadryl doesn't impact). She's not blister-red anymore but pink so it seems the increased washings, shampoo, and rinsing the allergens off her skin are helping. She is always on a high quality dog food with no additives and no gluten, grains, etc. in her chow and her condition comes/goes with the heat/spring-summer.

This is a pretty good dog toy. My dog is on the small side (16 pounds) and definitely loves toys. We rate his toys based on safety and how long they last, and this one did well. It lasted several months until he finally worked a stitch free. It has no parts we were concerned he would swallow and was a favorite of his while it lasted.

Just a warning to anyone concerned about exposing their households/pets to formaldehyde. The description does not mention this fact, so be warned and if you are concerned about this issue, research formaldehyde in furniture to see how hazardous it may be to your environment to make a more informed choice. I would not have purchased the item if it stated it contained formaldehyde, which the EPA has classified as a Probable Human Carcinogen meaning that it causes cancer in animals and likely humans.

However, the item arrived quickly and I was able to make the return with little problems after explaining to Wayfair why I would not have purchased the item if I had known in the first place. I was promptly refunded.

Not only for cats. I have a little dog that i have adopted and you can see that he feel safe in this from the other dogs. and i love how the top comes off the top as well. he'll go running and instead of fighting to get him out , pull the lid off and there you are. Nice little thin cushion in it for them ,(that could have been a little thicker). But for the price . you see a little dog looking out of the house box relaxed and happy . And that is what i bought it for.

I really like how sturdy this is put together. I only wish it would have been a little bit bigger but it works. We have a 19lb cat and he is able to fit his fat butt in there so thats all that matters. It also makes a nice foot rest. All in all I would recommend this to anyone, especially for smaller cats.

When Frontline Spray was first brought out several years ago it was the most expensive product of it's kind on the market (that I knew of). But that didn't matter. It worked and it worked extremely well. The smell was mild and acceptable and the liquid was long lastingup to six weeks or more. The dogs and cats I used it on soon began to accept the occasional sprayings with gratitude. The fleas would fall off immediately onto their little backsstone cold dead. The ticks would dry up and could be brushed off by the next day or so. Fantastic. Everyone was happy.

This was a product that although owned by a French company was manufactured in the U.S. and I presume France as well. But I seemed to get the U.S. product here in Texas.

After a couple of years, and a couple of price increases, I noticed that the strength of the product was noticebly weaker than the original version. It seems that it gets weaker with each subsequent bottle that I buy. And yes, even though the miracle active ingredient has been cut repeatedly the price keeps going up. Now the fleas, at least a few of them, still fall off while spraying; but now, the little fellers just roll over, dust themselves off and promptly jump right back on the dog or cat. The ticks eventually get sick of the stuff after a few days and walk off to who knows where. Days and weeks later there are still a few fresh fleas and ticks that show up and ride around for a few days until I do a mild touch -up with the weak spray. This is the result from the product that I get now that is labeled as being manufactured in France. Seems they may be a tad greedy and getting more so. That's the only way I can explain it. The active ingredient is Fipronil.

So, after years of wholeheartedly recommending the product, I'm back to recommending the strong and effective Adams Spray. It's far more cost effective. It's just that everyone involved hates the strong odor. But it works as well as it has for many years and the price won't bust your budget to the point where you have to be late on your next car payment just to get the danged fleas off your pet.

Another product I've recently found to be very effective and relatively inexpensive, but labor intensive (depending upon your particular pets), is Zodiac Flea and Tick Shampoo for Dogs and Cats. It's effectiveness seems to last well for three to four weeks. Its active ingredients are Piperonyl Butoxide Technical and Pyrethrins.

So, to sum up, the manufacturers of Frontline Spray have taken what was a wonderful product available at a high, but fair, price and tinkered with it until now it's a mediocre product with an outrageous price.

Every few years we have a flea outbreak amongst our dog and four cats. Our veterinarian sends us home with Frontline drops which do not help us with current fleas as it takes several cycles to work, and most veterinarians do not carry the spray any longer. While the smell of the spray can be overwhelming, it gets the fleas off immediately! As you spray, the fleas surface and fall off the pet on to the floor. While the product claims that it is good for a month, we notice relief for about 7 10 days. During that time frame we will find new dead fleas on them that have hopped on from outside or from the carpets. This 7 10 day window gives you time, however, to do a fairly thorough house cleaning to get rid of the fleas. We do spray a second time which appears to eradicate all the fleas.

Love the orange, and the size is great, but it's not the easiest crate to travel with. Even when folded down it's quite bulky (the size of the base), and the set up is kind of tricky you have to shove two metal bars into holders at the top of the crate. I like how you can open both side walls and the top so your dog can see out, or close them up if it's bedtime. Probably the worst thing for me is that three of the walls and the top are all secured with zipper and it took my puppy about ten minutes to figure out how to open those zippers from the inside. So if you have a little Houdini like I do, I recommend a more secure crate!

Bought this after reading the 1 review it had, can only assume that quality control is the cause as to why my crate was unusable after 2 shows. Zipper attachment was poor on one side of the crate, and at 1st show one zipper pull came out where stitching was not fully sewn to crate door to wall. At the 2nd show, the other zipper pull also came off, rendering this crate completely useless. Will stick to the Elite Fields crates from now on, have 3 that have been through multiple shows with no problems.

Great crate. Like the design. Plus easy to set up, looks great, strong frame, many venting options.

Cons Would prefer the frame to be self inclusive, like the Noz2Noz, rather than having to store the top bars in an exterior pocket.

Also, if you're thinking about this for flatfaces, remember that mesh crates are generally hotter than wire or even some airlines. The mesh is fine enough that there isn't a ton of air flow, unless you set a fan up in or adjacent.

I love this crate and would order another.

I orginally found this product after complaining to Nylabone. I had bought one of their 'Pit Bull Tested' toys some knobby thing for my half pit bull mutt. He enjoyed the knobby thing but it was in tiny bits in under 5 minutes. I pulled the package out of the trash and emailed nylabone with a complaint. Much to my surprise they responded the next day and sent me the Galileo Souper bone at no charge. My dog loved it. Nylabone later paid my dog $25 to test a new and improved 'knobby' product but it didn't last either. However the Galileos are great and we keep buying them. We get about 9-12 mos out of each one before they get down to plum size. They keep his teeth nice and clean too. The floor does tend to vibrate when he grasps it with his paws and start gnawing (wood floor over a crawl space) which is a little odd but does impress visitors :-)

We've had dogs that wouldn't have a thing to do with Nylabones, but what works great is early training. Start the puppy out on the puppy nylabones. Follow instructions and help the pup's interest level by smearing some peanut butter on it, and so on.

The first time we saw a Galileo Bone, we were mystified, but the sales clerk said he had one and it lasted years! And guess what? It did! Our dog is over 8 years old now, and has two Galileo's. He doesn't chew on them constantly, but whenever he feels like it. It helps keep his molars free of tartar and satisfies his craving to chew.

One of the bone's 3 tips was getting chewed waaaay close to the stump and finally broke off. According to instructions, that's the time to retire it and get a new one.

I've paid over $20 each for these and feel they were worth it at that price. Now they are almost half that. Good deal.

Natural (real) bones are dangerous and rawhide chews can get stuck in the throat, swell in the stomach and even cause bowel impaction. Don't use them. If you insist, supervise the dog so you can assist if the above problems happen. It has happened to us.

But use Nylabones and don't worry about it! It may take some training at first, maybe not. If it does, it's worth it.

We have a half Rottweiler that is a very tough chewer. When he was a pup he destroyed nearly every toy we tried to give him. I was concerned that he would swallow something he shouldn't, so we had to take away the toys. Then we found the Galileo Nylabone and the black Kong toys. These were a blessing, as no matter how hard he would try, he couldn't tear them up. The Galileo Nylabone is designed so that it just comes off in little shreds nothing big to swallow. Our Rotty has been chewing them for nearly 10 years, and still likes them. He gets excited when we give him a new one.

I bought this for my 5 year old 20 lb Jack Russell Terrier. She is an extremely aggressive chewer and most toys don't last 5 minutes. I thought this would be the perfect solution.

I gave it to her a few hours a day supervised, and she loved it. About a week later I noticed blood all over the floor. Her whole mouth was cut up from the "rice size" pieces that clean the teeth. Despite her mouth being massacred, she still chewed on the toy. I had to throw it away so she wouldnt hurt herself. I touched it as well and it was SHARP.

What a waste of money. I still cant find any toys for my dog to chew without her ripping them up or hurting herself..... sigh..

This Nylabone Galileo was sure to be the answer for my bulldog. It did last longer than previous purchases, but the ends that he chewed are very sharp and prickly. It's heavy and he still carries it around sometimes, but I'm sure it hurts his mouth and gums if he chews it.

These collars conceal the fact that you are using a choke collar. This saves explaining to the uninformed how and why a choke collar can be an invaluable training aid. They do not release as quickly as the original style, but not t0o bad.

Nice product but these run small. I recommend buying the next larger size and remove links if needed. It is also important for people to use these collars properly. They should be used as high up on the neck as possible, NOT down where a regular collar would typically sit. This will assure you are not choking your dog or damaging their larynx. It matters how you put them on. If you walk with your dog on your left, hold the collar and attached leash so it makes a letter "P" not a letter "Q" as you face your dog. Putting the collar on properly will insure that it releases and loosens when you ease up. The collars really should not be called "choke" collars. They only choke when misused. A dog should NEVER be tied up to a choke collar, even if you are just going in somewhere for a minute. They should only be used with a leash, and only by people who know how to use them. It should just barely fit over your dogs head without hurting on the way on. If it is too small it will go on but be very hard to take off and may hurt your dog's ears on the way off. Remember this is not a device to help you win a tug of war with your dog. It is a device to alert your dog that you do not like what she is doing or about to do. It should be used with a quick tug and release to the side. It is to interrupt their thought process or fixation. For example as you approach a dog coming towards you and your dog is going into an excited or fixated state, give a quick tug towards you to get have your dog focus on you and not the approaching dog. Or if your dog is constantly dropping her head to sniff at everything, especially food scraps you should give a gentle correction as she BEGINS to drop her head. These are great devices to train dogs to know when it is time to "Walk" and when it is okay to sniff or do their "business."
