I looked at the options and figured this would be the best for an outdoor application. It is well thought out and easy to install. Took 2 days of training and now my golden has it down pat. WONDERFUL idea--congratulations to the inventor! LOVE IT!

I love the product! The dog was a bit confused at first because he couldn't hear the action of the bell when the door was closed (the ringer is located inside). However, treats tucked in behind the paddle and summer use of the screen door have helped!

Best Deals for Pebble Smart Doggie Doorbell

Finally something that has worked to let my toy poodle learn to let us know she needs to go outside! I've used this for a month with my dog who has been very resistant to house breaking. It took her a solid three weeks to learn what the bell is for, but she also was about a year and quite confused about the whole house breaking bit. She learned to ring it almost immediately, which is great. Rather than use her nose, she whacks it with her paw. The down side is she learned it was a treat machine, so even though she was ringing it, It was for treats and out of boredom. Once the treats were taken away, and her access limited to when we knew she had to go out, progress was a lot faster. This is very well made and shows no sign of wear. The batteries have easily lasted this month, which was one of my big concerns. Overall, Highly recommend.

Honest reviews on Pebble Smart Doggie Doorbell

I have one of the dumbest dogs on the planet. He's sweet, gentle, caring and thick as a brick. He is also quite large so I was worried when we moved into a place with a glass backdoor. His "scratching" to be let in was shaking the house and I was afraid the glass would scratch or break.

I got two of these doorbells and even though he has NEVER been trained to do any type of doorbell, he was ringing to go in and out in 9 days! he got the ringing to go out part in 7 days, but the ringing to come back in part took a little longer. This doorbell made my dog look smart!!! The design where they can see you put the treat in and they can sniff the treat is brilliant! I tell everyone about this, it is genius and a total door saver!

This is a very clever little doorbell. Unfortunately my dog is not so clever. He doesn't seem to like to bonk the doorbell with his nose; he prefers to lick it but that doesn't always ring the bell. In spite of extensive training, he just can't quite get it. I think a set-up where the dog could step on the button instead of nudging it might be easier; in any case I can't bear to put all the blame on my little dim-wit, the product design must share some blame so I give it 4 stars, not 5.

This is my fourth or fifth Outward Hound product I'm a huge fan of the brand and have always had great experiences with their products. Right up front, I want to urge readers to take the negative reviews of this product into consideration they are all fair (not the usual "this product suxxx") and should weigh equally as you decide on this product. I have not had any of the problems they mentioned (everything has held up nicely during use), but it does seem that quality control on this product was a little less than the usual stellar level I have come to expect from O.H. I would like to thank Boycott Boring and Kyjen for sending me a sample of this product to review they did so on the understanding that I would provide my HONEST feedback.

INTRO

Ok, so I definitely got some raised eyebrows from friends when I told them about the "doggy tent". I grew up with our family dogs being outdoor dogs, and though we provided them with a VERY nice wooden dog house, the idea of a special tent/shade just for them on family camping trips would have given my dad a laughter-induced heart attack! Still, this thing is pretty darn cool when set up, and serves an important purpose.

SET-UP

Mounting this shelter was incredibly easy it's about the same size as a children's play tent, and if you have set up a traditional tent before, you'll have no problems. Our first experiment was in the living room our first dog is a rescue and we wanted to introduce it in a comfortable environment. If you even SUSPECT that your dog might be weirded out by this product, I would highly suggest doing so. It took 20 minutes and plenty of treats, but she finally laid down and stayed in it. Our new pup (13 weeks old) of course loved how new and exciting it was! Moving it outside, each corner has holes for standard tent pegs, so now worries about this thing flying away with your pup in it!

MATERIALS AND QUALITY

Well, as with all Outward Hound products, the quality of fabric is very good. The ground sheet will stand up to your dogs claws, and is waterproof to protect from dew. The sides are not meant for rough and tumble, but match the quality of our family tent. The poles seem to be what everyone is having problems with. As I said at the beginning, I have had no issues after using this shade several times, but many other HAVE had issues. The good news? Replacement poles can be purchased to size from the better tent retailers, and not for crazy prices either. I absolutely agree that this shouldn't be necessary after paying for this product, but I wanted to highlight it as an option. Quality control lost this doggy tent a star, and I really would urge Outward Hound to go back to the drawing board on the poles, or at the very least change suppliers.

FUNCTIONALITY

Now as I said, this thing is a little extravagant. That said, when you're camping on a hot summer's day and your dog is on the ground trying to stay in the shade but getting bitten by passing critters, you'll wish you had something for them. This little shelter offers protection from the sun and heat, and serves to protect them from critters, dirt and yes, even wet ground. The slits in the tent are excellent for passing a rope through as long as you tie the leash higher up on a tree you won't put any undue strain on the slits. Now, this shelter is really only missing one GLARING feature...a way to enclose your dog. Now I know this isn't REALLY a tent, however for dogs that don't stay very well, a mesh closing with a zipper on the front would be so useful! It would take this shelter from being a place of shade to an all-night place of rest! I'm actually considering sewing zippered mesh on the front of the tent myself and seeing how they fare in it. I didn't take a star off because I received this product knowing there wouldn't be this feature, but I thought it worth mentioning.

OVERALL

Despite QC issues, I have had no problems with the shelter. It's super useful, big enough for our two pups to play in (25lbs apiece right now, but lanky) and definitely keeps the sun and critters to a minimum. One star was lost for quality control, and though I recommend this product, I do so with some hesitancy! It will be coming with us on our camping trip next month, but I might be making some modifications first! If decimal stars were allowed, I would rate this at 3.75 stars out of 5.

I purchased this tent for our medium size dog and she absolutely loved it! The tent material was nice and thick and we were sure we found the answer to bringing our dog camping with us without spending over $100 for a dog tent. The company was very nice when we contacted them because after several usages the poles snapped. Also the tent is starting to come apart at the seems. I certainly could resew it, however, the company stopped making this product so cannot even get replacement poles :( They told me that they had quality issues and have stopped making this product. All they can do is give you an equivelant product pricewise. Since they do not have any other dog tents, this is very frustrating.

Best Deals for Outward Hound Shade Shelter, X-Large

First of all, you must realize that this is not a pop up tent, like I had originally thought it was. You have to put all of the poles into flimsy material , and while you do that, you have to be very careful not to break the poles. One of the poles bent and broke upon putting it together, which made the whole tent unusable. It would also be very time consuming to have to put this together and take it all down every time you needed to take it with you in the car. The whole purpose of this tent was to give our dogs shade during training or different outdoor trial events. This would not work with this tent, since it was not a pop up and way too flimsy.

Honest reviews on Outward Hound Shade Shelter, X-Large

the poles for this tent broke on the first weekend we used it. the tent has many nice features, but the poles were so cheaply made the tent fell down.

The Kyjen dog tent is great. It is easy to set up and has great features like zipper closures and screen sides when you want to let air through for your dog. When you're done, it packs down to a really small size, making it easy to store. It's really cool. We will be taking it on outings so our dogs can just kick back in comfort.

Have been using for two months now and seems to be working great. Have not found any ticks on dog which I had with prior products.

We bought this with high hopes of saving money and having some spare drops (bought two 4 packs for a six-month period). Well, the dog is a house pet, but goes outside to the restroom (the grass). However, since we switched to this "version" of the K9 Advantix, we've seen the dog scratching more and more each month. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE. Go to the store or 1-800-Pet Meds and buy the more up to date version of K9 Advantix. That actually works; we switched back to it a month ago and the dog is fine, now. Very disappointing. Save your money and shop around. Avoid the old box style pictures.

I have treated my dog, my house and my yard and this product DID NOT work. I complained to the company the product came from and they told me I needed to treat my house and yard. I responded that I had done those things, but was ignored. I will not purchase this product again.

Honest reviews on K9 Advantix Flea Control For Dogs, 0-10 lbs Green, 4 Month

Of the multiple topical flea controls I've tried, this one works the best. However, I live in Louisiana and even this is not totally effective. I have to have my dog on Trifexis as well, which is taken orally. Using the combination of the two, he will still get an occasional flea bite (I can tell by how the skin on his underside reacts), but I don't find fleas on him anymore.

I was nervous when buying this because I wasnt sure if this was the whole set or just replacementsI was pleased when it arrived and was the whole set.

My dog has a great time with this toy. The little squirrels inside the trunk are squeaky toys, which she LOVES. The box came with instructions on how to modivate and teach your pet to use it. We put a small treat in the bottom and she had a great time digging it out. The whole process for removing the squirrels takes her less than a minute now, so if there is not a human near by to restock the trunk, she moves on to something else. This is not something I would leave her with and expect it to keep her occupied for the day.

I would say that if your pet enjoys this general type of play (stuffed things, digging, hide and seek) this is an EXCELLENT toy and alot of fun.

Best Deals for Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel Puzzle Toy for Dogs

Our golden retriever loves this and, as others have reported, enjoys carrying the animals around the house after removing them. Fortunately, he doesn't squeak them for more than a couple of minutes at a time, and he hasn't injured any part of it in the three weeks that he's had it (he seems to know the difference between stuffed animals and sticks/bones, fortunately).

I did need to do one intervention, though. The dog's grandparents and his father were encouraging him to "get the squirrels! get the squirrels!" They're definitely chipmunks. I've never seen a striped squirrel. So if you want your dog to learn appropriate species identification (and who doesn't?), you might want to switch to "get the chipmunks!"

Honest reviews on Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel Puzzle Toy for Dogs

This is a cute, soft, cuddy toy which will, no doubt, entertain dogs without much interest in chewing (or lack the teeth to do so). However, our sweet little miniature dachshund (A) removed all three "squirrels" (they're really chipmunks and very cute) within less than 5 seconds the first time out of the box. Game over. Tree stump irrelevant. Within 15 minutes the three luckless chipmunks were in need of major surgery. Sadly, they are all deceased. The squeakers, like those in almost every dog toy of this type, are cheap, poorly inserted, and inadequately protected from anything but a toothless animal. The seams holding these cuties together are easily ripped open, spilling little chipmunk guts all over the carpet and leaving the "squeaker" for your pet to pick up and choke on! If this toy was for children, it would require a danger warning label. All-in-all it looks cute, but unless your dog is toothless and passive, look for another, better made toy. Amazon is doing no one, including the toy maker, any favors by including this poorly made item under the heading "for aggressive chewers." It is most definitely not! There's a reason the price is so low.

I feel it is important to mention this crate has a divider. I bought this crate for my 8 week old great dane knowing he would grow into it but would need a divider so it was too big at first. No crate on amazon stated that it came with a divider. So I bought this one... And was going to make my own when low and behold it came with one! Great crate so far

I'm not sure if this is exactly the same measurement we have, ours if for a 90 lb dog. We keep our 16 lb dog in it during the day. It is easy to clean, sturdy, and the doors close easily. We found a clip on water bowl at a pet store, got a dog bed from Target, and she was set. I feel confident I can leave her in this crate, go to work, and she'll be safe and comfortable. We do have a plastic sheet under it in case of spills; it is on our carpet in the living room. This is a great product. I read the other review that said a dog demolished it. The crate seems very sturdy and well constructed, but our dog is small. She did manage to drag a kennel across the garage so she isn't a weakling, but I don't know if a bigger dog would be able to destroy this crate. We haven't had any problems and nothing has been bent, broken or otherwise destroyed.

I have a Lab/Ridgeback mix and he loved the horn. He actually loves anything with peanut butter but this was good because he had to work a little harder to get all the peanut butter out. I also want to add that I was going to purchase this on another site and it was much cheaper on Amazon.

My puppy (7mo old Papillon) loves filled hooves. I thought I'd let him try a horn. Well, HE would've given this product 5 stars because he ate all the filling in an hour. I'm giving it 1 because I'm cleaning all the vomit up.

This filling isn't anywhere near hard enough. Other products REQUIRE the dog to chew. Kinda the purpose, isn't it?

My aging cat, like many others, needs to be encouraged to drink as much as possible. I read lots of reviews for cat fountains, and decided on this one (there are basically two other options that I know about.)

I have a pergo floor that isn't impervious to water, so I varnished a thin 2'x2' piece of plywood to set the fountain on, to catch any random splashes.

Maisie wasn't sure about the thing at first, though maybe the smell of the varnish was putting her off. After a few days she has taken to it fine. I don't know if she LOVEs it, as other owners have claimed, but she does use it, which is all I could reasonably expect.

Good:

It is quiet. The motor is virtually inaudible. I don't know why some other people complain about the humming or buzzing noise. I don't hear a thing, and mine is sitting on a hard floor (on top of a sheet of 1/16" plywood.) It can make a trickling watery sound at the high setting, but apparently some people like the sound, and anyway turning down the flow almost eliminates it.

It holds a fair amount of water. I don't have to worry about it going dry every few days as I did with the old water bowl. So Maisie always has water to drink.

Doesn't splash water everywhere. In fact it doesn't splash at all. The water has a landing ramp that lets it down easy.

Stable, not easy to tip over.

Not so good:

It does need to be refilled every few days, not because it will run out of water, but because the impeller pump sits a fair distance above the bottom of the drinking bowl, so there has to be a fair amount of water in the bowl so the impeller (like a little paddle wheel) isn't spinning in air. The pump will complain then, making a sucking, thrumming sound. If the water level falls too low, the pump will run dry and possibly burn out, even if there is still water in the bowl.

It isn't that easy to clean. I clean mine every week or so, which seems to be often enough. It doesn't take me 30 minutes as it does another reviewer, more like 10. I don't have the problem with cat hair (I brush Maisie twice a day) but I do get a bit of brown or pink slime (just as I did with an ordinary water bowl.) That is anaerobic bacteria, just like you get on the lower edge of your shower curtain, and it isn't dangerous to your cat. But it is icky.

The fountain was designed with absolutely no thought to making it easy to clean. There are several nooks and crannies that are hard to reach and would have been easy to eliminate. For example, in the water reservoir there is a deep, round cavity about 1/2" in diameter and about 4" deep, closed at the bottom. It serves no purpose other than to align the reservoir assembly with the base, and it is continuously filled with water. To clean it well requires something like a test tube brush (long thin round brush with bristles on the end.)

So instead of cleaning it with a brush, I am experimenting with simply rinsing it with white vinegar, which should kill most of the bacteria, and unlike dishwasher detergent or spray cleaners, it leaves no residue and especially, no odor (once it is rinsed away.)

Or I may just use the dishwasher. The fountain is top-shelf safe, but a different plastic would have made it anywhere-safe. Also, it would be hard to position it so that it won't collect dishwasher water (with little bits of coffe grounds, etc.) somewhere inside.

For those reasons, I give it four stars. The water filter is nice by the way, but it is quite thin and I don't know that it does very much. Nor do I know if it is really necessary. It is supposed to remove tastes and odors, but there wouldn't be much in tap water, and Maisie certainly doesn't mind when she drinks from the faucet. Also, it filters water that has already passed through the pump. It would have made more sense to put a screen or filter in the water flow in front of the pump where it can keep hair out of the impeller.

Some of the negative reviews indicate that the Drinkwell is noisy. The truth is, it's only noisy if it doesn't have enough water or if the intake valve is clogged (which so far hasn't caused the pump to burn out for me). There's a slight hum from the pump when it's working correctly, but it will be much quieter than the other appliances in your kitchen.

Cat hair and cat food can both clog the intake. So to keep it in top condition, check the water level once every day or two (or get the add-on reservoir), place the Drinkwell several paces away from the food dish (so your cats aren't tempted to moisten their food with it), and break down and clean the Drinkwell regularly, perhaps once a month when you change the filter cartridge.

Best Deals for Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain

Every cat owner knows their pet(s) must drink plenty of water for good health. Fresh water is as necessary to your cat's well being as good, nutritious cat food. My two certainly drink lots of water especially in hot weather. However, stagnate water in bowls loses its freshness fast. It also accumulates cat hairs, dust and debris not very appetizing. Drinkwell Pet Fountain for Cats encourages pets to drink all the water they need because there's always a supply of clean flowing water. Re-circulating water, with greater exposure to oxygen, provides fresh-tasting, cool, filtered water with lots of health benefits. Encouraging cats to drink more water helps ensure proper kidney function and may decrease the incidence of urinary disease.

The charcoal filter, which is a feature I really like, absorbs bad tastes and odors. The fountain has a six cup capacity, and you can purchase an additional six cup capacity with use of a refill accessory. The additional water supply is wonderful, especially if you go away for the weekend frequently.

The weather has been really warm, recently, in my neck of the woods. I bought my Drinkwell Fountain at the end of April and my cats, Dapple and Max, love it. I still change the water every two days or so, wash the water dish, and I check the water level daily but that's me. Also, be sure to remove any pet hair that has accumulated near the intake propeller every few days. When the water level is kept above the intake valve, there is no noise except the soothing sound of flowing water.

The cats are also fascinated by the running water, and just hanging out by the water fountain encourages them to drink more. Who knows what they gossip about.

Honest reviews on Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain

The pros are that if your cat likes to drink from a faucet then your he will go crazy for the Drinkwell Fountain. It is also healthier for the cat because the water falling into the bowl helps to keep the water oxiginated.

The cons are that if your cat doesn't like to drink out of the faucet then they may not like the splashing water. Yes, you can adjust the flow but even with it on low my cat was getting splashed in the face when he tried to drink from the bowl. My other cat simply refused to go near it. Also the instructions claim that due to the filter and the circulating water you would only have to clean it once a week. I found this to not be the case. Even with emptying the water and putting in fresh water every day the bowl was getting slimy after only 3 days and had to be scrubbed out.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain

I bought one of these Drinkwells through Amazon. I got the optional resevoir and cleaning kit and with shipping it cost me $70. The Drinkwell has a relatively loud pump noise that comes from under the bowl part which spooked the cats the first few days (ands drives me nuts so I have to unplug it at night even though it's three rooms away from my bedroom). Once they got over the noise, the cats loved it so much that I would have liked a second (I have multiple food/water stations) but the price made that impossible.

The other day I was at my local grocery store and they had a similar product called the Bubbler for $14.99. I couldn't believe it and snatched one up.

Let me say, the Bubbler is not only considerably cheaper, but holds more water than the Drinkwell, is easier to clean than the Drinkwell and is quieter than the Drinkwell. I so regret spending that much money on the Drinkwell now.

The Bubbler air pump is not in the bowl, it connects to it by a hose so the little bit of noise from it is far enough away as to not spook the cats. All you really hear from the Bubbler is the bubbling water which reminds me of those water fountains people put in their homes now.

The Drinkwell pump is in the back of the bowl and it recirculates the water so you hear the pump itself and then the running water sound. As it pulls water from the bowl and recirculates it, any pet hair or dropped food that goes into the bowl gets pulled into the inlet and clogs it. Some hair goes right through these little pieces and then clogs the pump. I pulled a big hair clog out of the center of the pump already. Plus it uses filters so there's that extra cost. I have run it without the filters, so that is an option.

There's only three pieces to clean in the Bubbler, the bowl and tank/lid, and they go in my dishwasher. The Drinkwell has 4 major pieces, 2 lids, three small pieces, and the pump itself which need to be cleaned with the brushes by hand.

The Drinkwell is great and the cats do like it, and I would have gladly given it 5 stars prior to owning the Bubbler, but that would have been based soley on cats loving it and not because I had any true basis for comparison. Now I have two to compare and so my Drinkwell is no longer all that great. Even if they dropped the price in half, I'd still get another Bubbler just for the ease of cleaning and the water capacity it holds.
