I have a lab mix dog who is very frightened of thunder, lightning, rain, fireworks, or even a loud noise next door. He shivers and tries to hide or usually he tries to climb up my back and sit on my head (he's 50 lbs). If it's raining at night I don't get a good night's sleep because he's so frantic. For a while there we were just locking him in the bathroom, waiting until he stopped freaking out and would keep him there while we slept. All the while he was still freaking out, but only silently. We tried benadryl and even valium to no avail. With valium he would freak out while the noise was going on then after it was over he'd sleep all day. I was very skeptical about D.A.P. but I got some of the spray anyway because I was desperate. I can't believe how great it works. I spray some on a bandana and tie it around his neck. Now if it's raining he is much more calm. At night he can sleep in the bed with us if it's raining and he doesn't try to sit on my head anymore. Today is the 4th of July and there are fireworks going off everywhere. Normally he'd be shivering, whimpering and clawing at me. This time, with D.A.P., he's still quite concerned about the noises, but he is just sitting there quite. He doesn't like it, but he's not freaking out. This is the only product that has actually done something to curb his phobia of thunderous noises. A dozen thumbs way up. Oh, and five stars.

My husband and I recently adopted a 6 year old Labrador Retriever that suffered terribly from separation anxiety whenever we left her alone. For the first three months we had her one of us was forced to stay home because she would become extremely destructive if we both left to buy groceries, go to the bank or anything else. Brand new steel crates were torn to shreds, welds broken, bars bent. Crate floors, both the tough plastic kind and replacements we made from 1 inch thick plywood, were utterly destroyed. And then there was the frantic barking that our neighbors, who live 3 acres away, heard the entire time we were gone -this through closed insulated windows! We tried EVERYTHING short of doggie tranquilizers to calm this normally happy dog down -a calm routine, food filled kongs, homeopathic stress relievers, aromatherapy, lights on, lights off, televisions on and off, views out the window, no views at all, sneaking out the door, feeding her heavy meals, taking her on long walks beforehand, making sure she's relieved herself, turning down the air conditioner, even parking the car at a distance so she wouldn't hear the doors close. Absolutely nothing worked. We always came home to complete havoc, with fur, water and crate materials everywhere. So when we stumbled upon the Comfort Zone DAP diffuser we figured, what the heck, it was certainly worth a try! Either that or we'd never get to go to the movie theater again. :-(

We plug the Comfort Zone diffuser in about a half hour before we leave the house. The dog is still confined to a crate (a place she normally enjoys when we're home) and is given filled kongs and other treats. She has water to drink and we still leave a television on in an adjacent room. And now when we come home we find her to be very relaxed, sometimes even sleeping, with no signs of destruction and no one reporting frantic yelping. To us, this is a real miracle! We're already leaving our dog for up to four hours at a time with no problems, a real godsend for us because we live in a very rural location far from shopping, banks, theaters, post office, doctors, etc. And today we're going to go to the movies for the first time since we got her. Yay! :-)

The bottom line: This product works for our particular dog. I wish it wasn't so expensive to use since the bottle is reported to last only 4 weeks. Even so, it's worth it to us just for the peace of mind that our dog is no longer miserable when we have to be away from her.

Would that they'd had something like this for people back when we had teenagers! I would have bought it by the case! ;-)

My wife and I adopted a 1yr.old German Shorthaired Pointer from the Oregon Humane Society in August. Those of you familiar w/ the breed know they are very high energy. This particular guy came w/ no history. So, we knew we had our work cut out for us. We quickly learned that he had an extreme case of seperation anxiety. If left alone for any amount of time in any place he would become so panic striken that he lost all control of his bodily functions. The behaviorist at OHS quickly recommended this product to us along w/ the name of a vet that could prescribe medicication for the short term. Of course, we were skeptical of the D.A.P. because of the usage instructions. At first, it seemed like it was just another hook to get $30 (pet store price) a month out of our wallets. The vet medication came and went with little success in behavior modification. It just seemed to make him very tired all the time. After the first month of D.A.P. use however we were pleasantly suprised to find that when crated in the room with the DAP diffuser he could be left w/o incident for small periods of time. After about the 3rd month, his anxiety issues were reduced to a little whining here and there. Thinking the problem was solved, we discontinued use, attributing the progess to him feeling comfortable in the home w/ us. BIG MISTAKE. After approximately 3 weeks his behavior showed signs of being erractic again, and after a month we were back to anxious tension. So, needless to say we are back to using D.A.P. and he's doing very well. The bottom line is that this product may not be a quick fix, but I can assure you, from my own experience, that it DOES provide considerable relief for pet separation anxiety when given sufficient time.

We have a rescued dog who has turned out to have severe separation anxiety, so we're trying many different things to help him. We read all the reviews of this product and hoped it would help our dog -but unfortunately, it hasn't made a difference for him. That doesn't mean it's not a good product, though -from the research we did, it IS helpful to many of the dogs out there, even though it hasn't helped ours. Our advice would be to try it and see whether it helps your dog or not -it may be the answer for you, the only way to know is to try.

WIll this be a solution for all fearful behaviors in every dog? No. Is it a quick fix for your dogs lack of training or structure in his life? No. But might it work for your fearful dog who is suffering from separation anxiety when all other options have been explored? Yes. It certainly did for us. Our dog started soiling in the house for no apparent reason (he'd been accident free for three years) about 6 months ago. After several trips to vet to make sure he was in good health and several consults with a behaviorist, we were at our wits end and about to put the dog on prozac. Luckily I remembered how great the Feline pheromones had worked when I was working with feral cats years ago, and I looked it up to see if they made something similar for dogs. Our dog has turned a corner with this diffuser plugged in at our house, and if I let it run out, his old habits return. 13 bucks a month is cheaper than doggie Prozac and I feel better about it. It might not work for everyone, but it certainly worked for us!

This is a fragile dog house although I use it for my ducks. Not built very sturdy certainly not for an over twenty pound dog. The design is very appealing and easy to put together but the structure is weak and boards very thin. We have had to repair it several times and I only have 2 ducks housed in it. I would not purchase it for a dog to be housed in the winter either.

I bought this crate because I wasnt sure the one I had was going to be big enough for my APBT Titus. And the one I have didnt have a divider (its the plastic kind) so it wasnt conductive for crate training because he frequently had accidents in it. About a month after i bought it I had a "lightbulb" moment. I have 2 dogs and was using 2 different crates (one is a small terrier mix) and currently my APBT is 4+ months old and the crate is barely divided in half and fits them both beautifully. The divider made it super super easy to train my titus not to pee in his crate. Now both my dogs go in on their own and seem to enjoy being in their crate. And I love the blue color too.

the only caution i have is not to pull up/twist the pan as you remove it from the crate. It is a little thin and bends easily but it did not break. :) the divider can also be pushed back and forth (since it folds in the middle) by the dog scratching the pan, but looking at the mechanics im sure this is true with any divider.

All in all Im poleased that I purchased it. A great crate for the value!!

***Update***

This is a great Crate for puppies and crate trained adults. HOWEVER! If you are dealing with a half grown or full grown dog (med-large breed) that is not crate trained or has separation anxiety you do NOT want this crate. The price is cheaper because the gage on the wire is smaller. I have no problem with it for my dogs, but I have kept 4 different dogs (lab heller mix adult, husky young adult, large pit bull adult, and doby-sheppard mix 8 months old) who have managed to either pop the sides open, or flat out destroy the crate.

In sumary if you are looking for a cheap alternative for your puppy or crate trained dog, this is great for you. If your dog is more than 3 or 4 months old and not crate trained... I suggest the KONG brand that petsmart sells.

I highly recommend the metal tray kennel over the plastic ones. It cost less than half the price and no more accidents leaking onto your floor beneath. I have already had to replace my floor and the expense of buying new kennels and replacing the floor will not happen again.

This is a great product. The dogs didn't like the noise of the metal tray, but was easily solved by putting a blanket in with them. Well worth the money.I would never go back to plastic.

When I was shopping for 2 dog houses for our large breed dogs, I almost purchased a more expensive house as many of the reviews are for the small sized Petmate Barnhome or the Medium sized. The dimensions of the LARGE Barnhome are 38in x 29in x 30in. This house is big enough for our 120 pound pit bull, our two 75lb. coonhounds and our 80lb blue heeler. This house is much roomier and taller than this photo listed for the product makes it seem.

We have strong winds and we live in a lowland area in which the ground stays wet after it rains for longer than usual. We have 2 of these Large sized dog houses and neither one of them has blown away due to strong winds. We don't have them staked to the ground and they've still stayed put. Also, the bottom raised lip of the doorway keeps the water from getting in the house.

The only thing that I'd recommend in extremely windy winters is to either order the flap that latches onto the door entrance of this house or hang a rug from the top of the doorway to keep wind from coming into the house as much (which is what we did).

Before, we had the Igloo dog houses and the dogs always got them apart and ruined them because, they had flimsy plastic tabs holding the heavy top to the flimsy bottom. So far, the dogs haven't got these houses apart and believe me they have tried!

Overall, I'm very pleased with these dog houses. Our dogs seem to like them too. For the price, I don't think these can be beat, unless of course you build your own. Our dogs give this house 5 bow wows all the way around!

My 90 lb. pitbull Chucky, a foster dog, loves this doghouse. I will find him outside laying in it even though he has freedom to come in thru his doggy door. I have to beg him to leave it and come sleep in the house at night, and sometimes he prefers to stay in it. It is sturdy, very very inexpensive compared to others, and extra roomy, with lots of space for air circulation. I just tossed a thin cushion into it and he loves laying in there. Best money spent in years.

I placed these 3 homes under my backyard covered patio over a carpet for a little more warmth from the cold cement. At first I was concerned about my chihuahuas staying outside with the cold weather, but I checked the temperature inside the homes by putting my hand inside and to my surprise I found it wasn't cold inside the doggy homes. It was actually a very comfortable temperature. That gave me peace of mind since I knew that the temperature outside was in the low 40's. I am so glad I chose these homes. My doggies really love them and I love them too because they are so easy to assemble and take apart. If at any time you want to clean your doggie home, pet bed, blankets etc.. All you have to do is remove the top and remove it's contents from your doggy home and hose it down or if you want to wash it with soap and water and let it air dry. You can launder the bed and blankets and then replace them and finally place the top back on. That's it you're done! So easy!!

It's pretty hard to find a good deal on a large size dog house that matches the decor in your yard. This one hit the spot. It is all natural wood that looks and feels great. It comes in pieces in a box and all you have to do is screw them together. The screws have pre-drilled holes so you can't make mistakes. I gave this a four stars instead of five because the wood could have been a little thicker, and it could have had some water proofing/shingles for the roof. The floor is raised off the ground to keep your pet dry, but they don't mention that he legs are adjustable to keep the house level. Each leg has a plastic covered screw that allows you to adjust its height. Overall this is a great dog house for a large breed dog like a Yellow Lab.

This is a relatively light weight but sound structure. Clean lines and natural material blends well outside. Passed the pet litmus test the dog and cats like it and use it a lot. I'd rather have a slightly smaller opening as I suspect it will allow rain in, but haven't had it long enough to test. If so, I can put a shelter over it easily. The weather here in Sacramento is a good match for this structure. The dog uses it even in hot weather as the wood floor is very good thermal barrier. I'm very pleased with this product as I did my homework and this is a good fit. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the material is fairly light. On the flip side, lighter weight is a plus as it is easy to move.

I'd buy it again.

This was so easy to put together. I had it done in anout 30 minutes. It defintiely makes in to a solid house and my dog loves it! My puppy has learned to mark and does this at indoor playgroups. I tried a previous belly band that didn't stretch (slid off), and it was a mess. That belly band had an integrated interior pocket that held a terrycloth pad. This is just a piece of thin neoprene. You can't attach a sanitary pad (like some belly bands) because of the slick fabric. So if your dog continues to try to mark, soon he'll be wearing a urine soaked cloth that leaves yellow stains on his fur if he has light fur (like mine). It's already embarrasing-enough that he's wearing the band, now he's marked. Poor guy. I had to create some pee pads from old towels and sew velcro strips on the belly band and pads so I could attach. Works, but takes some time.

This insulator was easy to put together and put in the dog house. It really helps in the cold weather we live near San Francisco. I've had it for a year and now the top edges have black mold on them and the mold has gotten onto the actual doghouse opening roof. We get a lot of mousture and rain, but I thought it would have sealed a little better. I will be buying another one to replace the molding one my dogs love the house, and are just fine in there when it's cold.

This doghouse is great. It is large enough to fit two dogs of about 40lbs when they ball up. My problem is my dogs are not trained to use dog houses, just their crates in doors so they are unsure of what to make of it. Hopefully soon they will enjoy laying in it to get out of the cold wind.

Only con was some of the corners were chipped when I opend the boxes, but nothing that I would want to take the time to send back. Would purchase again if necessary.

I have a tiny 10lb puppy. She quickly removed the bottom pad and shredded it to pieces. That wasn't enough for the dog though, because she moved on to destroying the side insulation.

Ware Manufacturing states they make quality pet products. How could a quality product be so easily destroyed by one small puppy? This product is meant to be around and surround dogs. If such a tiny dog can do so much damage, this is not a product that has been built in a quality fashion.

Also I took my concerns to the owners of the company. Their answer was -too bad. They were unwilling to stand by their product and replace the one I had bought.

Great Crate for the price, especially with the free shipping. The ease of sliding locks makes it easier to take apart to clean and with crate training puppies this helps alot! The door latch feature is also a major plus, just pull up on either left or right doorpost knobs. Some of my crafty puppies were onto the old crate door latches and were occassionally working their door unlatched, noway with these ones! They even come with attachable slide stops for added security when using carrier for longdistance traveling. The Firstrax 19-inch carrier is well constructed but if you have a dog or cat weighing much over 12 lbs. or so you might want to get something larger. It might as well have been a sardine can as far as my 17 lb. cat was concerned. Not gonna work.

We bought this for our cat as we are going on a very long car trip, it's too big but it is a very nice carrier. The only thing I find confusing are the dimensions.

On the label it states: 32 L x 22 W x 23 H

When I measure it I come up with 30 L x 18.5 W x 27 H (not including the edge around the door that makes it 33 L)

It is very tall, not sure what the confusion is about the height on the label.

Anyway, it is a very well made carrier however we will return it and get something smaller.

We are so pleased with this product. We got a puppy last June and spent the Winter housetraining him. He urinated in the house once the first week we got him and was in a pet pen and thoroughly trained for 4 months. The 5th month we allowed him to roam the house at will when we were home. Three months later we had the carpets cleaned. Within two weeks, this 1-year-old dog urinated in the house 3 times. After the second time, we bought a belly band from PetSmart. The next day he urinated in the house again and the belly band went on him! The problem was that it fit like a bloomer and was hard to fasten because of the design. With him in and out of the house every hour or two, this became a hassle so we purchased this product. It is easy to put on him when he comes in and easier to take off when he goes outside to play. It's been 6 weeks and no more urinating in the house! Buy one!
