I'm actually buying my second one and can't believe how many negative reviews I'm seeing. I trained my lab to water retrieve with this and it's the only toy she hasn't destroyed. The only reason I'm replacing it is because I lost the first one. I had bought a different bumper for her but she destroyed it in less than two weeks. The firehose toy had lasted her over 8 months before I lost it, with only slight damage. She is going to be excited when her new one arrives! It is the best water retrieval toy I've ever used.

She loves it alright. She's had it for almost an hour now, and is nearly to the squeaker. The first two photos I took (above) were taken at about 30 minutes, when she'd gotten the stuffing out. I'll take more photos of the final carnage. She's ~30lbs and 8 months old... I mean, she loves the toy, but I guess the larger size might be tougher? No, I can see it being bigger, but I doubt it's stitched any more robustly...
Anyhow, it's $7, so whatever. But, man. I was really hoping to have found the toy that she could have for longer than an hour.
EDIT:
After contacting Kyjen and showing them the photos of my dog's quick destruction of their 'durable' toy, I got a concerned email on the next business day with the recommendation of their Hard Boiled Softies line. My dog has had the 'bee' HBS for 3 days now, and the worst she's done is tear the 'wings' off. Certainly a better fit for my cuddly hellhound. Excellent customer service, and a good product, when the appropriate product/pet match is made. :)
SO, while the firehose toy is not as durable as I'd hoped, Kyjen was really responsive, gracious, and suggested a way better match (the hard boiled softies).

Best Deals for Fire Hose Squeak Dog Toy
Our two herding dogs are young vigorous chewers. Most toys sold as "tough" last less than an hour before they reach a state where we have to take them away. They frayed all four corners of the Fire Hose in the first hour, and will eventually destroy it, but it's held up better than most, hasn't given off large chunks to swallow (unlike many rubberoid toys), and having lost some of its novelty for chewing it's now being treated mainly as a carry and play-invitation toy.
With stronger seams the Fire Hose might join the very short list of almost indestructible toys like Holee Molee. Kyjen's Fire Hose Flyer may be in that list already, since it has no exposed seam.

My dog was able to chew off one end of the toy within an hour. Might be fine for a light chewing dog. Wouldn't recommend for an aggressive chewer. which is what it is intended for.
