I am a veterinarian with 7 years experience, and I have 3 Great Danes. I am always looking for safe, effective, fun, and innovative new pet products. I saw the video for this product, and definitely agree that carrying a pocketful of crumbling treats isn't much fun for training/rewards, so decided to give it a try. All 3 of my girls tried to bite the bottle at first (and I think most dogs will), but within a few seconds, all of them figured it out, and were licking away very happily, each taking their turn sitting down for me. I also recently used it to help keep them standing still while my 8 year old daughter gave them baths outside with the hose on a nice warm day....much less mess than doing it in the tub inside! It was also handy when we went for a short hike at a local park a while back, as I am training the 2 younger Danes to wear backpacks (that's a whole other story!). Even if the dogs jump in the river wearing their backpacks and get them soaked, their treats won't get soggy. The only thing I would like to see is using a liquid treat that's maybe a bit healthier for them...the ingredient list on the Lickety Stik looks like a lot of processed stuff. It does have a bit of an odor, too, but I didn't find it that strong or offensive like some of the other people here did. And I think it's the odor that really draws the dogs to come check it out...otherwise, why would they want to just lick a plastic roller ball?

Also, I think it would be nice to have a bottle that is just a little bit larger for the large/giant breeds like mine...but this does work well regardless. Finally, I think it would be great to have a refillable bottle, so there would be less waste...500 licks goes fast when you're training 3 big dogs!

Oh, and yes, I will re-order this, and do recommend it.

Since neither of my 2 dogs can write about this new Lickety Stik, I will do my best.

A new idea for treats is always welcomed. We had 3 flavors of Stiks, Bacon, Chicken and Liver. We tried all three on both Sundae and Casey. Sundae licked all three and seemed to like them all. Casey, however, wouldn't try any of the three, just turning his head in apparent disgust (lol). Having had dogs my whole life, you never can tell what a dog will like or dislike. I didn't give this 5 stars, because of some functional reasons, not because Casey didn't even try it. First, the lick ball is exactly like a deodorant ball. As a matter of fact, the container reminds me of an Arrid Rollerball Deodorant bottle exactly. It doesn't move freely by just licking, you have to gently squeeze the bottle for the liquid to be available to the dog. If you squeeze too hard, it drips onto the floor. Other than that, it seems to be enjoyable. It is supposed to be healthy, but I had to use a magnifying glass to read the rather small label.

The video is one of our taste tests. Hope you enjoy it.

Update July/September 2012: Sad to say both my beautiful puppies in this video have passed on. They were both 12 years old.

It's been several weeks of using it and there is still a ton of licking left, definitely getting my moneys worth out of this treat.

Another thing that has been nice is the ability to keep this in my pocket without making a mess. So going for a walk with it has been nice (and a great way to keep his attention when there are other not well behaved dogs around).

UPDATE -

Well the puppy dog has spoken... he loves Lickety Stik!

When we first presented it to him he was a bit unsure and tried to bite the stick which was kind of cute but he quickly realized he had to lick it.

Now every time the Lickety Stik comes out as a reward or to teach him something, he just can't wait to lick the bejesus out of it.

Not only does the dog love it and responds really well to it, it's made in the USA!

This is a very unique, clean, easy to use, easy to carry, and fun treat for your dog. I would highly recommend this to most anyone. Way to go PetSafe!

Izzy, our mini schnauzer, is very food motivated. Schnauzers have a tendency to get chunky though, so rewarding her with food every time she does a trick is a balancing act between giving her something she likes but not having her snack with treats all day.

At 1 calorie per 10 licks, along with a fun interactive way to give her the treat, the lickety safe is fun and healthy. She had no trouble at all figuring out how to lick the deodorant like ball. This would also be a nice travel treat in the car because it closes up and you don't need to get treat on your fingers to give it to the dog.

My trainer gave the Lickety Stick to me to use as a tool for distraction for my Standard Poodle, Billy. I loved this product and it worked well with him for several years. Two weeks ago, I was sitting in the car with Billy. Someone walked too closely to the car and anticipating Billy's barking, I quickly pulled out the Lickety Stick. Billy took a few licks, then popped the roller ball top off the bottle and swallowed it. We drove immediately to the vet, who told us she would not consider retrieving the ball because of possible damage to his throat. She was also concerned about bowel obstruction. We spent a week worrying about Billy, but he eventually barfed up the ball. I am thankful he didn't have to endure surgery. The Lickety Stick had been a great tool for us, but I cannot recommend it to anyone because of the possibility of the roller ball popping off.

This is a good crate very sturdy and has good room. It will accommodate my GSD as an adult the divider works great. My only problem is that my GSD does not like to be confined so we have to use clips all round the front because she has gotton out and set the alarm off a couple of times. Outside of her being able to get out it is a great buy and if I need another one I will get this one.

As a former Veterinary Technician I have considerable experience and knowledge about fleas and their life cycle. However, you don't have to be a technician to do a google or wikipedia search to learn a little bit before writing an ignorant review. The vast majority of the bad reviews I have read here, are obviously (to me) from people who really do not understand where fleas come from and what you have to do to eliminate them.

Here's the thing: 90% of the flea population that feeds off of your pet are NOT ON THE ANIMAL RIGHT NOW. That's right, the vast majority of the pests are actually on your floors, carpets, furniture, pet beds and so forth waiting to hop on Spike and Fluffy when they are hungry. Fleas feed, then jump off the animal, while some more of their family jump on and start feeding in their place. To truly manage the flea problem requires TREATING THE ANIMAL AND THE PREMISES. If you do not treat the premises (including the yard) you will never get ahead of the problem. Sevin dust in the yard or some pyrethrin-based spray have been effective for me for many many years.

Also, the lack of effectiveness that people think they are seeing is not because the product is not as good, it is because the fleas have become tougher over the years. You just have to attack the problem on all fronts and be as persistent as the pests themselves. Treat the animals and the premises and don't let up.

Now, I am going to save some people a lot of money. The drug in Advantage for Dogs and Advantage for Cats is exactly the same drug (Imidacloprid) at the same concentration.

If you buy this "Large Dog" package, you get four 4ml tubes. If you then empty those into a vial or vials, you can use a syringe (without needle) to apply the right dosage to your dogs AND cats. In fact, if your cats are under 10 pounds, you can get 10 cat doses out of each of these vials. That's a real bargain!

Advantage II is the same, but adds Pyriproxyfen for the full life cycle coverage.

Use the following chart and you will be fine.

Cats up to 9 pounds 0.4ml

Cats 10+ pounds 0.8ml

Dogs 11-20 pounds 1.0ml

Dogs 21-55 pounds 2.5ml

We have three dogs & two cats & occasionally a few hundred if not thousand fleas. We use different doses to cover the whole herd.

We used Advantage when we lived in TX & it worked great. Then we moved to MO, got a new vet who sold Frontline in bulk & gave one free when you bought four. He would just fill syringes with a prescribed amout & put those in a medicine bottle. We thought, sure, whats the difference & went on as usual.

The frontline is a good product & we couldnt really tell any difference so we just didnt think anymore about it.

But after a few months one of our dogs started to have allergic reactions to fleas.

For reasons I wont go into here, we switched Vets. Our new Vet didnt sell Frontline in bulk so we purchased the Advantage from her that came directly from the maker, Bayer.

Wow, what a difference! I put in on the whole crew at 8 am & by noon the scratching & biting was almost non existent. I did a search for fleas & the ones I did find were either dead or moving so slowly they were easy to catch & kill. Two days later we have no fleas.

Now I should add two things here.

First, I also treated my lawn with a 10 lb bag of flea, tick & ant killer which Im sure helped. At least as far as re-infestation is concerned.

Second, I suspect that the bulk Frontline that I was purchasing may have been weakened by age or the way it was stored by the Vet & transferred to me in syringes. So I would suggest that anyone thinking about purchasing in this way, think again.

Lastly, my wife & I are considering using Advantage & Frontline both. Possibly switching them every other month in hopes of keeping the little buggers from developing resistance. I dont know if that will help but it couldnt hurt.

It often took an entire Saturday. These drops were a blessing. Now the Advantage seems to be losing it's effectiveness. My vet agrees, saying they need to tweek their formula. I've started using Frontline one month, then Advantage the next month. It's the only way to keep fleas away.

I bought Advantage for both cats under 9 lbs and dogs under 10 lbs for my parents. They have 3 cats and 2 dogs that became subject to a plague of fleas during the 2 weeks I was visiting.

I've used Frontline for my 2 dogs in the past and was very happy with it, but for 5 animals Frontline is a big expense. Advantage is a little less expensive. I researched the differences between the two and basically it comes down to Frontline will also handle ticks whereas Advantage is just for fleas. People seemed happy with both products.

Biospot is cheaper than both but totally useless. I was a little anxious about using Advantage without knowing if it worked as well as Frontline.

We put it on all the animals the afternoon the package arrived. That night one of the cats was sitting on me. I got up to go to the store and noticed two fleas on me. Later she was on me again and when I got up there were 8! She moved to my father's lap and when he got up he had 17 on him. All the fleas were dying and moving from their food source, but alas it was too late for them.

I didn't realize how many fleas the animals had. Advantage worked great. I am not sure how it will do in the long run, but the pets are relieved for now.

I still use Frontline for my dogs because we go hiking where there are ticks galore. Advantage is a good solution for my folks because their pets stay indoors or their yard. I think the applicator is easier to use with Advantage. None of our pets had any adverse effects from using either product.

How can you not get the best when It comes to your dog. My dog is getting up there in age and I wanted him to have a really cozy spot to sleep. This bed does the trick, the fur padding is really soft and wonderfully padded. My dog loves it, he sleeps in it all night and naps in it during the day.

I bought this toy for my puppy. He is a strong and aggressive chewer. He had this for less than 5 minutes and had already destroyed it. It seems very durable for an average chewer, but do not buy if you need the most resilient toys. The felt is easily torn off, and the rubber underneath does not stand up to any chewing.

Well I figured I would give these a go. Dogs tend to love anything that squeaks and of course the tennis ball feel brings back fairly good memories of lots of fuzzy broken balls.

I think it is important to stress that these footballs are not chew toys. They are designed to be interactive play between yourself and dog. So long as this is adhered to the ball will last a fair while.

my dogs LOVE this toythe squeak and the bounce seem to captivate them. Pretty good price for the toy also.

My 5 month old lab/border collie puppy loves squeaky toys. When she received it for Christmas she loved it so much that she destroyed it within hours of having it. The felt on the surface was totally peeled of and the squeaker was ruined very fast. The dumbell also broke off in little pieces and we had to take it away from her, fearing that she would swallow them. Your dog will love this toy, but it won't last very long.

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up the box and used the first bag. The bags do have a slight scent, but it resembles baby powder more than the advertised baking powder. I'm not sure the scent is needed, but it's nice to get a whiff of that first before you bend down to scoop up your pup's offerings! The bags are certainly durable and the size is just fine for picking up after my Aussies. My only complaint is that the bags do not meet the California ASTM6400 standard for biodegradable products. A chemical additive (TDPA) is used to assist in the degradation process. I was a little disappointed to see that the bags were advertised as 'biodegradable' in the title of the Amazon listing, but then under the product description you find the legal disclaimer. Once I've used up all 375 bags, I'll be on the lookout for bags that do meet the California standard and that are actually made in the U.S (these are products of China).

These bags are not as big as they say. I have 3 large dogs (labs/lab mixes) so these will only work for smaller dogs. My dogs love the Big Shrimpy dog beds. They are really comfortable as you can tell because they wind up laying on them very often and look so relaxed. When one of our covers got separated at the seam it looked like it would not be something I could sew and do a decent repair on so I ordered the new replacement cover. I love the Big Shrimpy beds. Bit of a front end investment, but I don't have to replace smelly broken down beds every 3 months to the tune of $50.00 $90.00 a pop. I've had our Big Shrimpy beds for over two years and the giant breed fur kids enjoy them.

My lack of "Wahoo" is the quality of the replacement covers. I replace them once a year or when they have catastrophic failure in the wash. The latest replacements do not have the attention to detail in the stitching. Edges are no longer tucked or double stitched and fray easily. It's super neat to have a seam let go or goober up the zipper.

All that said, its still cheaper and more comfortable for the fur kids in the long run to have Big Shrimpy. I just have to do the double stitching when I get new covers.

The advertised color of the dog bed cover was clay. The one I received was black with gray cloth insert. I have bought several extra large dog beds. One had the zipper open the length of the end and side to help get the foam in. Another opened the length of one side and made it more difficult to put the foam in. The Big Shrimpy had a zipper on one end only. Trying to put a piece of foam for an extra large bed from the end is quite a task. I will never own another one.

Well made, soft, and seemingly durable. I have had this a couple of months now and it has been through several washes and still looks good. It is light enough for those cool days when a hoodie is too much. Also, doesn't seem to cause itching like other garments, probably because of the bamboo fibre.

My Italian Greyhound rescue wears a small/medium in every other Casual Canine shirt but this one....It is way too tight across the front and I am afraid will rub the fur off his front shoulders if he wears this for any length of time....Very disappointing that the size is not consistent in the Casual Canine dog clothes line.....

It's going to have to go back.....BTW----The length and girth around the lungs, stomach are fine....But the front chest area is cut way too small....
