my small cat had kittens and i was worried about when they started to open their eyes and getting about. this is the perfect size for that problem. kittens are active in the day time and protected at night. mom can get in and out through the top for the time being. i would recommend this product not just for small dogs but for cats also.

I have relative coming over for the holidays so I wanted to make sure my little buddy wouldn't be running aroundunder everyone's feet and getting in the way. This doggie play plen is a good purchase for me because he can't knock it over and it's big enough so he doesn't feel trapped like in his carrying kennel.

This is much nicer than I expected. I actually got it on Groupon so there were no reviews. I expected tent like walls and nylon mesh windows my cays would eventually tear up. Wrong! It is great thick canvas, thick rubbery mesh they can't snag. The zippers are nice. Just make sure you show yourself the measurements because the pictures of dogs inside it have been photoshopped and they are not as big as the company like to make it look. But definitely still big enough.

I was a little nervous as a first-time dog owner to crate my dog, so when a coworker recommended a play pen to me I was very happy to have an alternative! This play pen is PERFECT for my little guy, a 9lb Chihuahua. The zippered door ensures that he cannot get out of the pen unless I want him to, and there is more than enough room for him to lay inside and either sleep or play with his toys. He is not a lazy dog, he loves to play with his toys, but he does not appear to mind doing so inside of the pen. He likes this so much that I usually leave the door and the top unzipped while I am home, and he frequently goes in there when he wants to take a rest or gnaw on his favorite chew toy. I haven't traveled with it yet, but I don't expect any trouble, it is very portable, I move it from the living room to the bedroom and back every day. I will say that the bottom is very thin, so if you have hard wood floors, I suggest getting a soft blanket or two to line it with in addition to your pup's favorite dog bed. All in all, both me and the pup love this pen!

The Petmate Pet Porter 2 is a useful item to have if you transport your dog or need to lock him/her up. Assembly was very simple and did it in a few minutes. The material is some what decent. Obviously this is not going to be Fort Knox. But it serves it's purpose. I bought this item for $79, which was a great deal. Though it might be a little flimsy, it keeps my dog contained. I have a 65 lbs American Bulldog, and he doesn't cause too much of a ruckus. The only design flaw is that the door could be re-enforced a little better. Also an addition of a handle on top would be nice. Just to carry it (not with dog inside).

Bought this for my Beagle hoping it would be sturdy enough to hold him. Needless to say it has a crappy design. he immediately tore through the holes in the sides of the kennel and squeezed out, and broke the front pannel. needs to have much smaller holes and more sturdy front pannel 120 bucks wasted

My dog gets very hot in the summer months so I decided to get this product to see if it would help her cool off. I agree with the other commenters here. It takes a long time to soak, you have to wring the water through to get it completely saturated, and then try to find a place for this wet thing. I had to put towels on it and place it on a cot before my dog would sleep on it. Even so, before long it seemed to be getting a little on the moldy side, which I guess I should have seen coming, so I threw it away. Its not worth the money.

For a recommendation, check out the Cool Bed 3. I purchased one for my dog and she loves it. Even though its cold outside now, she still sleeps on it rather than her more expensive cushion bed. I am now in the process of getting a larger one for her and will give the medium one to a friend.

I bought this for a feral cat I care for to help her keep cool in the Phoenix summer heat. She likes it and uses it a lot. She doesn't like to lay on it when it's wet, though (it takes a couple hours for the surface to dry out after soaking). Item seems a little pricey for what you get (the mat is small), but the cat is happy and the mat does what it promises, so I think it was money well spent.

This is a horrible product! It takes a long time to soak in cold water and it is bumpy with hard ridges, instead of a flat comfortable surface. My dog won't even go on it!

I bought this based on the reviews I saw, but it does not work! I put it in a sink of cold water for the allotted time, but it did not get cold as it said it would, and I had to add ice. My dogs would not get on this, at first I though it was becasue it was so wet, and I had to put a towel under it to keep it from ruining my floors. But even after it dried and it was just a little cool (not remotely COLD), my dogs delicately stepped around it and I could not even force them or bribe them to lay on it to try it out even after a day or two. This is a waste of money.

I had bought this because temperatures in my NYC apartment were sweltering and my poor dog was in agony. I had gotten this intending to give it to her immediately-turns out you have to immerse it in cold water to soak for about 15 minutes... but then let it dry. Wetting the crystals inside "activates" them, but it took entirely too long to dry. After trying it out overnight I ended up giving it to my dog, who then didn't want to lie on it because it was damp. I know some animals just don't care, but if yours is picky at all about water, just know it's going to take awhile--preferably on a sunny patio, perhaps, which I didn't have--to dry out to the point they'll actually use it. That said, she seems to like it in her cage, although she never makes a point to lie on it when she's outside of it.

We just bought this and set it up in our dog house. Very sturdy construction and easy to install. We have a 9 month old Australian Shepherd who chews up everything, so a pet heating pad was out of the question. Also, those are flimsy and not worth the $. We live in a snow belt and have very high winds. We have the setting on the heater right now on medium, and the dog's house is comfortable. We did insulate the dog house since this is one of the things they recommend for the heater to work properly. I would recommend this and am very pleased.

The first hound heater furnace that I bought would not regulate properly. I called the company directly, had a response within 12 hours, and a new heater at my door 2 days later. Great service and a great product. It is currently 10 degrees outside in St. Louis but according to my wireless thermometer...it is a toasty 72 degrees in the dog house!

The heater looks nice and looks sturdy. The unit itself gets hot but it only seems to radiate heat around it and does not heat a small space. I used it in a dog house that is a little larger than a regular dog house but it was insulated and should have kept the room warm. It does not. I could have bought a much better heater for half the price that is designed to keep a whole room warm which I had to do anyway. That is what I now have and it works so much better than this one. It was a very expensive mistake. I paid the high price of $100 because it was advertised as being especially for dog houses. The company was nice about the return and providing the information required to return it but I was charged $15 for returning it to the company (charged for the stated FREE shipping I received when I bought it and for the company's Amazon fee) and I had to pay another $20 to ship it (they required signature and insurance). I also had to buy the other heater. So I am out $35 for a product I could not use. Extremely disappointed. I will think twice before buying any more major purchases from Amazon or other companies.

When I first bought this in May of 2008 (see original review below), we ended up donating it to the local shelter because my dog didn't use it. Now that we have added a second dog, we figured maybe the new dog would like to have it.

We liked the quality of the pad the first time, so without hesitation we bought the item again.

What a DISAPPOINTMENT!! The quality has gone way down!!! The best feature of the pad (the wrapped cord) that used to be completely covered by a flat wire (like a ribbon), now has a wire that looks like one of those spiral notebook wires, very flimsy NOT CHEW PROOF ANYMORE! Also, the heat setting is way higher, so it can get quite hot I'm not sure if that is safe. I'm lowering my rating from 4 to 1.5 stars, had no idea how much the product changed! It still works, but between the changes in the cord and heat, I'm not sure if it is safe.

The best thing about this heater is that it is well made, good craftsmanship. It is made of stiff plastic, and it has a wire that protects the cord against being chewed. My dog lives indoors, but seemed to always be cold during the winter, so I bought this heater to put under his dog bed to warm it up.

It didn't work that way, the heat was too low to warm up through the foam of the dog bed. To give you an idea of the temperature, it was similar to the lowest setting of a car seat-warmer. It was nice, but for some reason my dog just wouldn't lay on it, so I ended up donating it to the local animal shelter.

PROS: Good quality, sturdy materials, wrapped cord

CONS: My dog didn't like it :(

CAUTION--The K & H Lectro Kennel Heating pad was used by my veterinarian to keep my dog warm during a dental procedure while she was anesthetized. The K & H heating pad malfunctioned and kept getting hotter and hotter causing my sweet beautiful 10 pound dog to get very seriously burned--2nd and 3rd degree burns on both sides of her body. She went through a very difficult and long recovery process that is still healing.

I wanted to find out how this happened and called K & H customer service directly. They asked me to have the veterinarian send back the heating pad promising they would test it. They then informed me that the shipping depatment "mistakenly" threw out the pad without ever testing it. They blamed the veterinarian for not using the product properly. Please make sure the product is used correctly. The temp control should not be optional. The manufacturer K & H Pet product's customer service was insensitive, self protective, evasive, duplicitious and dishonest. NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT DESERVES NO STARS.

I live in a moderate climate (nothern California). I bought one of these in 2003 to keep my Boxer warm on sunless cold winter days. It worked well until one day when I accidentally stepped on it. The pad cracked along the corner edge of the long side. There does not seem to be an easy way to repair it. I'm not a big guy (150 lbs) and the pad was not exposed to sunlight (lived in the dogloo). I feel like I got a few good years out of it but I'd expect it to be a bit sturdier for $60.

Bad mistake. Trying to save a buck, I departed from the tried and tested and ordered two of these K&H Lectro Kennels in August and September 2009 for two indoor cats who enjoy basement life during the winter months. The large lasted only 6 months. The fleece cover has been washed several times but is still like new. It has not been dropped, abused or damaged in any way.

"You get what you pay for."

Lectro Kennels are very poor quality. From the flimsy feel, there does not appear to be any insulation inside the unit at all as is found with better quality brands. They are cheaply made in China.

I have two of the red, KANE Pet Heating Mats, made in USA, that are 8 and 11 years old and are used outdoors in sheds and barns for cats. Both still work like new, although the coiled wire protecting the cord has rusted a bit. They are more expensive by about 50%, but are very well constructed, rigid and durable and the rheostat is included. I just ordered another. They are also available from Amazon.Com. Under SPORTS & OUTDOORS, search HUNTING: PET HEATING MAT.

Saving money up front is not always a bargain if the product lasts only 6 months as compared to one that lasts for a decade or longer.

And allowing pets to freeze in winter is not an option.

UPDATE 10/28/13

ALL OF MY KANE HEATING MATS are still working fine and remain solid and safe after 14 years.

I just ordered another. Amazon now refers to Valley Vet Supply as an external website.

The prices have increased but you get what you pay for.

The coil protective wire around the cord is now made of stainless steel.

Stray cats keep showing up around here when it gets cold. That's not surprising since we give them the best.
