The zones work great, within the limits listed below.

Good Points

1. Has a A, B, and AB setting which lets you control individual dog access to areas or objects (such as separate food bowls for special diets, rooms, etc)

2. The shock is mild but definitely uncomfortable (I tested it on me before I used it on the dogs). It is milder than the strong static shocks I regularly get around the house.

3. The dogs quickly learn to avoid things that cause shocks.

Limits

1. Collar wear is recommended to be limited to 12 hours due to rubbing by the stud on the neck. This can be a problem with intelligent dog and schedules requiring longer wear times. Intelligent dogs can quickly learn that the collar is the source of the shock and can wait until they are not wearing it to get into the forbidden.

2. The range increments listed (2-12 ft) are not dependable. I find mine, with direct line of sight, is half that or less.

3. The six available range settings are not enough. There are times that 1 or 2 ft increment is too much.

4. Area of affect is spherical. Keep this in mind when deciding where to use them. Depending on the range setting, just walking by the counter or under the table can set them off even if all you intended was to discourage Fluffy's nose from appearing on the counter/table top. The only way to alleviate this is to find some way to dangle the zone from the ceiling to correctly limit the reaction area to those 3 ft off the floor.

If you own an obnoxious young Siamese cat like I do, you understand the frustration of demolished house plants, tracked-all-over counter tops, and strewn trash. But not anymore! To my great suprise, cats shock-collar train really well :D

This device is really easy to use, though you won't be convinced after the first day. You DO have to make some adjustments to the system before it starts working the way it was designed to (zapping mr. kitty so he learns to not be into stuff!)

Some little pointers you need to know when setting up your system.

1) Placement of the trasmitter (the fire alarm looking thing): be sure you understand that on the maximum distance setting (6 notches) it is only projecting a radio signal out 6 feet in any direction (a total diameter of 12 feet). So, if you set it next to your house plant, kitty is only going to stay a maximum of 6 feet away from it (which is plenty to make your plant feel more comfortable ;o)

2) Collar fit (very important!!): this system will not work AT ALL if you do not have the collar tight enough! Remember that animals have fur, and it will mat down under the collar after about an hour. My mistake was to adjust the collar to a comfortable fit, which basically left the contact prongs just floating in fur (they have to contact the animal's skin in order to correct/zap them). So, the first day I was a little frusterated when Khemos just laid all over the transmitters and never got zapped. There were a lot of warning beeps, but no response from him. The next day, I got smart and adjusted the collar to a VERY snug fit, and was sure to move the hair out from under the prongs (you should be able to get just a finger tip under the end of the prongs when fitted correctly). And that's when the product started to work.....and boy did it! :D Don't be afraid that it's too powerful for a cat though. I zapped myself when I was testing it, and where it made me drop the collar (I was not expecting the shock when I got shocked) it didn't stop my heart or "hurt" me *lol*

Also note to be sure not to make kitty wear it all the time. It will eventually irritate the skin at the contact points, and there can be some hair loss. We keep Khemos locked up in 'his' bathroom at night, and put the collar back on him in the morning when he has run of the entire house. Also note that you can save the battery life on your transmitters if you turn them off when not in use.

If you have a long haired cat, you may want to shave a little bit of hair under the neck when you first start using this collar. You won't have to keep kitty looking that way forever (don't worry ;o) as the collar tends to train pretty quickly. It doesn't take long before the warning beep is enough to send them running away from the transmitter.

Some people are afraid to use training collars on animals because they believe they are inhumane. Nothing could be farther from the truth though. Think of it this way.... *lol* If you had to be "trained", would you rather be beaten with a newspaper, hosed down with a spray bottle (and thus start associating water with punishment) or be shouted at constantly? Personally, I would take the shock collar ANY day! :D

MORE HELPFUL INFORMATION 4-6-2011

Ok folks....I realize that I've already written enough about this product, but there are a couple additional pointers that will help you get the most out of this product:

1) Both prongs must be touching the skin at the same time in order to transmit a shock/"static correction". So if you're testing the collar on yourself before applying it to your pet, you will need to be touching BOTH prongs in order to experience.....well, the experience ;O)

2) If you happen to have a kitty with razor sharp hind claws, you will probably have to replace the handy-dandy collar this unit comes with (our's was scratched to smithereens within 6 months). After spending a great deal of time trying to find a replacement collar that would easily thread through the receiver's slots, the thought occurred to me that I could easily make a new collar! So I went down to our local JoAnn's Fabric store, and purchased about 18 inches of black, 3/4" wide elastic. To construct the collar, simply cut the old collar off the buckle, and thread one end of the elastic through it. Pull about 1 inch through and stitch through both layers to secure the buckle (it's easier than it sounds). I chose elastic over plain nylon web for it's stretchiness, and it's made a BIG difference (don't know why Innotek/PetSafe hasn't thought of this yet!?) The elastic gives a little making the collar MUCH easier/faster to fasten to a snug fit on a squirming cat. It also helps the prongs stay in better contact with the skin if the animal scratches the receiver out of position. Lastly, I think the little bit of give provides a more humane fit (which i know is a weird point to make about a 'shock collar' ;o)

I had researched this product and not found many people who had used it on cats. I have had great success using this product on my 2 cats. I wanted to keep them from entering the hallway to our bedrooms, which they have been doing for 6 years. At first they did not enjoy wearing their collars, but soon adjusted to them. It took about 3 days for the cats to realize they would get shocked if they started to go down the hall. Once they were trained, they have not attempted to go down the hall when their collar is on. very inconspicuous but very effective training device...has kept an 80 pound lab mix and 65 pound shepherd mix from running and jumping onto an antique glass entry door!(they've been doing this for years) Works like a charm and love the fact that you don't need any plugs, cords and can use multiple collars at one time. It is nice to know that I may move this to any other area in my home without complications and begin training there!

My dog, chihuahua, is so resilent to correction. You can tell him something a million times, spray him, watch him, stare him down, he just doesn't get it. So we put this in the living room where we don't want him on the couches, we used a leash to show him what to do.

We put the collar on, we tested the distance/perimeter with the collar, not on the dog. It beeps first, so that's their warning. We put the collar and a leash on the dog, and let him walk over to the couch, he heard the beep, and we moved him away so that he learns where to go. He didn't get it the first time, but got it everytime after that, now he runs when he hears the beep. One problem though, when we put it in the doorway to our room, if he gets too excited he can actually run right through it and he doesn't get bothered by it at all, no shock no beep. But that's cause he's running, he doesn't usually run into a room. PLus he has associated the beep and shock with the sensor, so when he sees the sensor he avoids the area in its entirety. I only wish I could use it with my cat!! That would be great.

We have some serious Bulldog and Shar Pei chewers, and this is one chew toy I think is going to last a LONG time. It's a bit heavy for small dogs, I'd think...but our mini Shar Pei lugs it around. This and other chew toys were our pack's Christmas presents. Since then, it's chewed fairly evenly around the entire ring and barely marked by their teeth (the dogs take turns chewing). A nylabone wishbone would have been gone by now, and the big souper Dura Chew, which we usually buy, is chewed an inch or two down. I'm impressed by this ring. If your dog can carry it around, I would recommend this for the serious chewer!

I typically buy the Nylabone Dura Chew Bones for my two dogs. One of them in particular is a very tough chewer and needs a very strong bone if we want it to last. I decided to buy this ring bone to spoil them with a little variety. They LOVE IT, AND it is lasting just like the standard Dura Chews! The texture and shape keep them interested and entertained for hours at a time. I will definitely be buying another one after this has been destroyed.

My dogs love these bones! I have an aggressive chewer & I always purchase Nylabone products for him. It's not as durable as a KONG, but instead of rubber, it's more of a plastic material. Be prepared, because it will splinter, if you have an aggressive chewer like mine, but it's definitely worth it because it keeps him entertained. I usually have one bone for 2-4 months, depending on his interest. You can even boil them in bouillon flavor once a week to keep the flavors strong! This product is much cheaper on Amazon compared to pet stores where they sell for $10-$30 (depending on the shape/style) for the larger size.

I needed something for the bottom of the stairsbut because of railings and trim, I needed something that could differ a little bit in width(top and bottom). Because you can adjust all 4 mounts, it fit perfectly! My dogs can't get thru it, its taller than the wooden gates so they can't jump it, and you can leave the gate in an open position when its not needed. It takes a little getting used to as far as opening with one hand, but overall it's great. i plan on ordering more!

I am the owner of a 15 lb miniature pinscher with a major napoleon complex and a surprisingly high vertical leap. I adopted him 2 years ago with the intention of leaving him out in the house when I went to work, as I have been able to do with my dogs throughout my life. Unfortunately, he had severe separation anxiety and had to be crated when alone.

Initially unwilling to accept this, I decided to baby-gate him into the kitchen (for easy "accident" clean-up on the tile floor) and thus invested in 2 standard baby gates (the wooden frame, crisscrossing plastic mesh type) and much to my surprise he hopped it with no problem. I decided to try TWO baby gates in the doorway, one atop another. Although impractical, it seemed there was no way he'd be able to leap over the fortress wall. You can imagine my surprise when I came home one afternoon to find him scaling the mesh like spiderman, near the top of the second gate, calculating HOW he could get over the top and have pure freedom. Clearly this wasn't working.

On visits back and forth to my parent's house, we had to separate the dogs as their great dane thought my dog was "snacktime" ... and my dad invested in a gate very similar to the evenflo, for about twice the price. The benefits of that gate were as follows:

1) vertical "jail bars" meant my dog couldn't climb his way over to freedom

2) it was exceptionally tall which prevented our dane from being able to peek over (we covered it with blankets so it didn't drive him crazy to see the little dog running around on the other side)

...a few months ago I relocated to a new house on a busy road, and after three near-escapes, I decided it was time to create a separation between the back and front part of the house so the dog didn't end up getting killed if he finally managed to run past someone.

I found the evenflo gate at Meijers, and was pleasantly surprised that it seemed to offer all the benefits of the more expensive gate, but at half the price. Other features I enjoy about this gate include:

1) NO automatically closing door. While auto-close may be helpful for people with kids, my gate is left open 99% of the time. The gate is positioned in a walk-through area and it would be a HUGE pain to have to open it every time I wanted to walk from one side of the house to another. The only time I close the date is if I need to leave the door open (taking out trash, etc.) and then I make sure the dog is on the other side of the gate, close it, and go about my business.

2) vertical jail bars mean no impromptu climbing expeditions

3) pressure-mount --I will admit the first time we installed a pressure mount gate it was a pain and a headache, but once you get it, its a snap.

I will give a word of warning, however. My doorway is the minimum size for this gate (29 inches I believe) and it BARELY BARELY fits. If your doorway is undersized or even slightly smaller than the minimum, don't waste your money. There is really no way to rig these gates if you can't squeeze it into your doorway level.

This gate was purchased at a local baby store it installs in just a few minutes, but broke the first time we tried to open it. All forces applied against the gate when closed are focused on a tiny plastic peg about 1/3 inch in diameter. This snapped off instantly. Upon examination the piece is actually hollow! We called evenflo who sent us another gate. This gate arrived broken in the exact same place! If I could give negative or at least 0 stars, I would. It is a horrible design and of very poor quality.

Right off the bat: I'm not reviewing this for my dog. (How's that for credibility?)

My hopefully helpful notes to you regarding this gate:

(1) They say not to put it at the top of the stairs. Pretty sure they're just covering their collective legal butts there. I could see why. If you put one at the top of the stairs and give it a gentle nudge, you may notice it give a little -especially if you've put in the extender. A toddler is unlikely to make it topple but be forewarned. That's on you.

(2) RE: the extender -I feel like there's a little wobble and give when you have the extender attached. Doesn't feel as sturdy.

(3) It's nice having the four corners as independently adjustable. Let's you put this just about anywhere. That said, there seems to be some "exact" width that won't work. Where I installed ours, the baseboard moulding was too wide to install this without the extender -but with the extender it wouldn't fit and we had to "raise up" the gate to install it over the baseboard moulding. And so it goes.

(4) The handle/latch mechanism is... well, it takes some getting used to. It takes some force and finesse. Give yourself a day or two to get used to it. Give yourself a week before you really get used to it.

Am I pleased? Pleased enough. It gets the job done and I don't have to fret with stepping over a "traditional" baby gate (nor put it up and take it down twice a day...)

Difficult for children and adults to use, but that's what makes it impossible for toddlers to open it. I need it when 16m grandson is here to keep him and our cat separate. The bars widest width opening is 2-1/8 inches. First time set up without original packaging strap was 3-5 minutes. I like the red and green indicator to show the gate is set up and locked securely.

OPTIONAL: Use a zip-tie strap, etc. to secure the gate before removing to temporary storage. Can ease reinstall, but not necessary.

NOTE: I lay a small rug over the lower bar once set up as a visual reminder to step over the lower bar. Necessary if I go barefoot and want to spare my toes.

These modular crates come fron Pet Edge, a large grooming and pet supply wholesaler. My company has been a customer of theirs for approximately 4 years, and we have 14 of these crate modules that we bought directly from Pete Edge for approximately $200 ea.

They are pretty much indestructable, with the exception of the spring loaded wire latch used to secure the crate door closed. When a dog puts pressure on the door the latch bends, and when you attempt to bend it back into the correct shape, it breaks. 6 out of the 14 crate modules we own currently have broken spring latches. No other part has ever broken on any of the crates.

Pet Edge has available for sale every spare part for these crates except one. You guessed it, the only one that breaks, the spring latch. This latch is less wire than a coat hanger and a 4 cent spring. Even after offering to buy complete new doors their best suggestion was for me to just replace the $1200 crates with new ones.

I have no choice and will, but they will certainly come from a different manufacturer.

First, let me preface this with the fact that we love our cats dearly and work hard to provide them with every comfort known to man including heated beds, an automatic laser pointer that provides hours of fun and catnip filled mice that find their way out from under the couch and other furniture from time to time. We don't, however, love pet hair and hairballs on our furniture. Recently we purchased a new sofa and resorted to draping a sheet over it while at work the first few days. Arriving home to find a couch draped in a bed sheet is not a way of life for us, so we looked at other options and found this device. I was skeptical based on the reviews here but purchased one to test.

You can set "sensitivity" to low or high. When set to high the device sometimes goes off with as little as heavy footsteps = perfect.

Had I had my video camera on when one of our cats attempted to find a soft spot to curl up in (other than the heated bed he loved so dearly until the couch came into his life), I'd have uploaded a video review of a cat in full backflip followed by a panicked exit from the room that entailed one wall collision and a flurry of pet fur.

I have had my tattle tale for over a couple of years now. I had a problem with my dog getting on my bed during the day while I was away at work. If I was home she would hang out with me, I don't allow my dog to sit on my furniture. This thing worked from day one and I have recommended it to friends who now have multiple. We just bought a new sofa and want to keep the dog off of it, so I bought another one. This thing could be more sensitive, but it is sensitive enough for my dog, 65 lbs. It will go off if I toss a shirt down on my bed nearby, that seems sensitive enough to me. The sound is merely annoying, it isn't an alarm just a loud piercing beeeeep. If you have a medium to large size dog I suggest trying it out. One more suggestion use it on a "cushiony" surface for best results, a hard surface won't move as the dog does. So if you are trying to keep a cat off of a table this won't do much unless the cat goes near it. I don't think it actually senses motion, it needs to be lightly jostled to go off. A good product though.

I got this to keep our West Highland terrier off of furniture, and it works pretty well. The noise does the trick. But sometimes it is set off by loud noises or by vibrations in the wooden floor (even though the Tattle Tale is sitting on upholstered furniture). So it's not perfect, but I'm getting a second one.

I bought the Tattle Tale a couple weeks ago. At first I was very skeptical. We have a microfiber couch that we have been trying to keep our labrador off of for two years. We tried aluminum foil squares, but they were terribly unattractive. Our dog isn't afraid of odd noises. She was trained against it as a hunting dog. So I was hesitant to buy the Tattle Tale. But the first time we left the house with the Tattle Tale on the couch, we knew she would try it. Sure enough, there were two skidding pawprints but nothing more. She was obviously spooked. Now, only two weeks later, we don't even have to turn the Tattle Tale on. Just set it on the couch and she won't go near it. No more blonde dog hair on our dark brown couch!

We have 3 cats, 2 girls & 1 boy. Ok we have 3 cats, 2 girls & 1 brat. He and his sister at about 6 weeks old were left in a box next to our mailbox. As I was about to throw the box out I realized the kitten inside. I then seen the other kitten fearlessly coming down the sidewalk toward me. He followed me right into my garage figuring he found him and his sister their new home. I figured him for a "Redneck" so I named him Jimbob. I was right, he's a brat until 9 at night when he can't keep his eyes open. In the evening when the window blinds come down he likes to bat them around trying to see outside. We make differant sounds to scare him away, but he can get used to it, and then you have to find more sounds that will scare him. I finally came across this Tattle Tale and bought one to try. After we put them in their room to sleep I took a small tie wrap and attached it to the bottom of the blind. After coming home that night I have never seen him go back to that window, which means while we were at work he must have gotten himself a little Tattle Tale action! After about 1 week I move it to other windows & he will stay away from the previous window. Tonight it will go on the inside of a vertical blind with velcro. I could very well witness this scare tactic. I needed the Tattle Tale for a certain job and it is doing exactly what I expected of it. Thanks

My sisters 15 pound Pinhuahund (MinPin, Chihuahua, Dachshund mix) looked adorable for his trick or treating experience. Thankfully he is secure with his masculinity. There was no way he was going to wear the cloth crown however. The plush squeaky crab toy was claimed by my corgi.

BTW, if anyone is looking at the breed suggestions on the package for sizing you will be sorely disappointed for certain breeds. The medium size said it would fit a corgi. Hahahahaha. Ummm, no. My corgi is very petite and she would need at least a large if not an extra large for this costume.

I ordered the size small for my little 5lb Chihuahua and she just looks adorable! The size small is a tiny bit big for her but I expected that and would rather it run a little big than too tight a fit. With that being said the XS would have PROBABLY fit because the costume closes with velcro under the tummy and is adjustable. But it is adorable and super sparkly and she looks like a precious little mermaid! Its one of the cutest outfits ever and I would recommend it for this price from this seller! This collar is very cute. It's exactly what my husband wanted. However, this collar is made out of a somewhat slippery material. Every time we put the leash on our puppy this collar loosens up a lot. Our little Jack Russell does very well with this coat. She does not like to put her arms through other coats she has worn in the past. This coat closes with velcro so no doggie trama, just wraps around! The flannel side is good to kept her extra warm. (revseriable, one side plaid flanel and the other nylon which is great for rainy or snowy days. Great for our dog..love this coat!

This button is a good idea but my dog (who is not weak) is not making the connection to push on the button and I'm not sure how to make that happen. He has pushed it twice by accident because I smeared it with a food smell but he doesn't know he has to push down on it to make that happen and get a treat. As far as outdoors....that connection is not at all being made. And, we do this routine everytime before he goes out to relive himself. I think it will work in the end because I do think he will eventually make the connection and we have moved beyond his fear of the button, but we'll see.
