We have two soft coated Wheaten Terriers who have long 'hair' (not to be confused with fur) and a thick undercoat that is like cotton batting or polyfill. I have experimented with a few brushes, and more expensive brushes. They all fall apart, their pins come out or get depressed, or the base holding the pins comes out of the main body of the brush. The Andis brush is high quality and durable. Super for getting through my dog's fur and making it beautiful without a ton of work. I highly recommend this brush if you need something that is deep and good for thick fur. I also highly recommend a 'v' rake for pulling matts.

The comb does not pull like a wire brush but glides thru the contour with moveable tines. My Collie and Aussie are sensitive so they didn't mind as much.

I have a long haired cat and my vey suggested getting a rake style comb. This was the only one I could find, and I think it is more suited for a small or medium size dog.
Truthfully, I use it now to rake cat hair off my cat trees!
