* size/height/weight is excellent for taking a good knock without tipping over as he dashes through the cubby holes

* neutral colors look great in my living-room

Compared to what I've paid for plain jumbo scratchers this is an EXCELLENT value. Very pleased with this purchase and would definitely buy this again!

We share our household with 6 cats and as all cats like to do ... they love to scratch. We go through plenty of those corrugated cardboard scratchers like the Cosmic Alpine Scratcher which has a much looser cardboard grain than this PetFusion lounge. I was a little leery at first because of the price of this scratcher. I wondered just how good could a cardboard scratcher actually be for $45 that would differentiate it so much from the $10-$15 options that I have been going for over the past 8 years or so. They love the cardboard, but our multiple cats go through the looser cardboard options so quickly and sometimes they do not get the resistance they need from the looser cardboard and will resort to using the couch to scratch and get the "manicure" they need (really just shedding the nail sheath). This is a necessity for our feline friends.

When the PetFusion arrived, I was first struck by it's SIZE. I've posted a picture with one of my biggest cats who weighs about 20 lbs and is just a big boy, with large bones and length. Scooter is a feral cat and he has claws and massive strength. He is one of 6 cats who loves the lounger for both scratching and lounging. The quality of the cardboard used in the almost "furniture-grade" scratcher provides a great amount of resistance for that nail sheath shedding so that the kitty's don't feel the same need to mark and groom via scratching on a stronger piece of material. Outdoors, cats usually have trees to do this for them. To lure my two biggest couch scratchers (new couch, new habits), I used SmartyKat CatnipMist to make the scratcher immediately appealing. The scratcher does come with a baggie of catnip twigs (but none of my cats were remotely interested in this version of catnip and my cats are usually not picky ... but not a one liked it). Between the catnip mist and a little coaxing, I have redirected scratching to the new lounger where some of the cats are creating territories. The lounger is big enough to accommodate two of our cats and some of them like playing in the openings.

We all liked the lounger so much within 2 days I ordered another one for the top floor of the house. The cats took to that one too.

Our house is decorated in a more contemporary decor and this scratcher sits nicely next to our Noguchi Table and doesn't miss a beat. The item is reversible and I expect to get a good lifespan out of it. At very least 4 times what I would have with the cheaper cardboard scratchers. At that point, they have more than paid for themselves.

Easy on the eyes, a furniture-saver and the cats love it. We are all happy campers.

Update: 11 September 2012: I have found a way to extend the use of these scratchers (since I bought two of them so far). I find that if I cut them in half lengthwise with a hacksaw and use the inside surfaces it creates two scratchers and two great, fresh surfaces for our 6 kitties. They still lounge on the half-shape and it's a great way to extend the life. That said, I just ordered a new one today and am going to be cutting the second one in half and deploying it downstairs (I just had to throw away the two halves today because they had been scratched up).

These are not cheap scratchers but they can sure take a beating. They can also have their life extended by sawing them in half and exposing the undersides. It's like having two brand new scratchers! Moms and kitties are happy :)

As I sit here typing this 2 of my cats are playing on the lounger. I have purchased other lounger/Scratchers before and have been disappointed in their quality and durability. When I first took it out of the packaging I could tell it was well made. I have 4 cats that are lazy and love to scratch everything in sight. From the moment I put it down they were on it playing, sleeping and scratching. My furniture usually takes most of the punishment but since I received it I am happy to say the lounger has. I have already recommended it to my friends with cats.

Make no mistake, you are buying curved cardboard. That being the case, I don't think this product is worth the $50 I paid for it. My two cats like it well enough and use it consistently for scratching and hanging out on, but the problem is that one of my cats loves to chew on cardboard. He has already done some serious damage to the edges of the product and now I have small pieces of chewed up cardboard all over the place. Therefore, if your cat has a cardboard fetish like mine, I wouldn't suggest purchasing this product you will have a mess on your hands very quickly.

Otherwise, weigh the pros and cons of spending $50 on cardboard and go from there . . .

UPDATE (10/6/12): One of my cats continues to whittle away at the lounger. It is very beat up at this point. I flip it over as one side starts to look worse than the other. The picking up of cardboard pieces is never ending. I endure it because my cat still uses it to scratch and he'll also sleep on it occasionally. My rating remains three stars, mainly because of the price. I would be shocked if it cost more than $5 to make this product.

I purchased this for a kitty that was dropped off and we rescued. She is a lovely kitty, about 1 year old. I wanted to get her something to sharpen her nails on and I found this scratcher lounge. The review that I read said that the purchaser was leery but bought it and the cat went crazy and lays on it all the time. So, what the heck, I bought one for our kitty and she thinks it is just great. She sits on it, lays on it, plays on it. It is her favorite thing in the house and she scratches it and not the furniture. What more could you want!!!!

This thing is just great. It comes with a little bag of catnip and that is also quite entertaining. If she ever wears this one out she absolutely will get a new one. Every cat should have one really no joke. It is great!!!!!

I will say it again as we bought all three. If you have a choice, purchase Curly. I never dreamed that "Curly" would be the favorite like the other reviews said. I thought... how could a dog know the difference in the 3... these people don't know what they are talking about. Then, the trio arrived. My 12-pound Boston Terrier gravitated to the Curly one. They all look and are shaped the same, so tell me how this dog prefers "Curly"? :-) It is true! (haha) Perhaps the sound box on Curly is easier to set off, or maybe it is just the shape of his head... but my recommendaiton is to order 3 Curly's if you have a choice. This is unless you have a love for the 3 Stooges and want them all. :-)

This has held up well for 2 days now with my 12-pound fairly destructive dog. The voice box is loud enough to entertain my dog but is not overpowering (thank goodness). Perhaps they have turned the sound down since the last posts. :-)

Overall comments, BUY CURLY. :-)

Despite previous unfavorable reviews, I purchased two of these because of the perfect size for our 5-pound Maltese and the quite favorable reviews of the smaller 44" gate. Each took less than 5 minutes to set up and securely install. No tools were needed except for an Allen wrench included in the package. The dog can push against the gate without it giving. It does not mar the walls and, if needed, can be removed within a minute. This gate does what it claims to do.

We just got a puppy who will only be 8 pounds. The problem we had is we also have two 13 year old cats. This gate allows the cats to get to their food and litter box and the puppy to stay away from the food and litter. It is the Perfect Height to step over and keep peace in our household. The gate is sturdy and adjusts great. I love it.

Unfortunately this gate only widens to pre-determined widths, set at about 1.5 inch intervals. Obviously, the point of purchasing an extra wide gate is to fit a non-standard doorway, and as the gate has pre-set widths, it cannot fit in non-standard openings. The gate is not pressure-mounted, you open it to the pre-set width of your choice and shove it into the space you are trying to block. Subsequently, it is wobbly and falls over if your space is just that much smaller than the pre-set width or it scuffs up your walls if your space is wider. Horrible product.

It took a lot of research to find a gate that would span the distance I needed of 80"! I finally settled on this one because of the length and the price. When I finally got the gate, it was easy to put together, but it ended up being very flimsy and easily bowed out in the middle. It also did nothing to keep in my Pug/Chihuahua mix dog. This gate may work for you if you are trying to keep in a teacup dog or a small puppy, but don't bother for any other breeds. Overall, it was a waste of money for me.

A good product for the price. The door is easy to attatch, made of good quality durable vinyl. The only drawback is that it is not wide enough. There are gaps of about an inch on the right and left side. The wind can get in but it will keep out snow and rain...the main reason I bought it.

My 10 lb. puppies don't seem to have the knack of pushing through it yet to go in/out ...but neither do they like to use the doghouse much in the winter.

MY RECOMMENDATION:Maybe it would be better for a truly outdoor type dog breed who spends more time in a doghouse and needs the protection.

I use this finishing spray on my dog after bathing. It makes his coat soft and shiny. It also repels dirt.

I just have to be careful when I spray it on him in my bathroom, because it makes my linoleum floor very slippery for a couple of days.

My minpin was clever and despite being tiny, got out of this pen every time I walked away. Because the hinges don't lock, a dog can throw its weight against the pen and move the entire thing. A baby gate in the kitchen at the same height worked better. This might work for say, puppies, in a supervised area. Not worth the $94 I paid.

Easy to set up. Easy to take down. The only limit is that the individual sections do not lock, so the pen can be disrupted by even small dogs. My 2 Jack Russell puppies can practically move across the room by pushing each secton. They must study & develop a plan!

This has been a great addition to help give our puppy (6 months old) a little freedom and containment, too. Our pup is a large mini schnoodle....about 16 pounds, actively robust but not 'off the wall crazy'. When I first bought this device, my husband was skeptical. Then I set it up in an entry hall on a tile floor, configuring the pen sides to my liking and securing their placement with a sturdy chair or wall. I put in a small crate and water/food bowls and toys and our pup was ready for a couple of hours when we are away from the house. I could have put her in the kitchen but I noticed corners of the cabinets with chew marks and I did not want her to destroy furniture or cabinets or pull out electrical cords in our absence. So this exercise pen has been wonderful. It also folds up perfectly for travel and replaces the picnic table in our CRV for trips. I then set up the pen in a few minutes anywhere we go. 30inches high may seem high.... but not knowing a pup's capabilities for jumping it has been fine. We just train her to sit when we come to get her out and then ask her to stand and pick her up... For people with back problems or who have a hard time bending over, I am sure you could unhook the connecting panels like a door and retrieve your pet as well. Could not live without this!
