Cedar chips were recommended to me by a second-hand bookseller as the best thing for taking smoke smells and mustiness out of old books. I figured it wouldn't cost much to try it, but when I went to pet stores to get some, it turned out cedar chips are actually rather expensive! So I looked through amazon, and decided this 5-cubic-foot bag was one of the best deals, size for money.

When I got the chips, I layered some in a box. Then I loosely wrapped the book in question with a paper towel (just in case the chips would stain the cover or pages), put the book in the box and then filled the rest of the box with chips. Closed and sealed up the box; waited impatiently a week to see what would happen.

What happened was, the book came out smelling almost like new. I could smell the cedar but the smoke smell wasn't quite gone. Got fresh chips (PLENTY of chips in 5 cubic feet, WAY more than I thought there would be), repacked the book in the box, and when I took it out a week later, it really was amazing. No smoke smell at all. The cedar smell has since faded, and still no smoke smell. So it wasn't just that the cedar smell was covering the smoke smell -it actually removed it.

Next I tried the technique on a book that had the yellowed pages and musty smell characteristic of a 40-year-old paperback. One week in the chips and not only was the musty smell gone, but it really almost smelled like a fresh, new book. I did not have to do it for a second week.

After that I got braver and put a couple of books at a time in with fresh chips. Turns out, you can put in as many books as the box will hold (leaving plenty of room for the chips, of course) and they all come out smelling must-free.

And I still have over three-quarters of the bag left after doing 12 books. It's probably more like seven-eighths of the bag left! I put it in a downstairs closet and it smells great in the closet now. As an added bonus no bugs will have the nerve to go anywhere near there anymore, which is good, because that closet backs onto the garage.

A word of warning--this is advertised as good for guinea pigs. NEVER use cedar shavings for guinea pigs, as they are toxic to them! Never use regular pine shavings either for the same reason--only kiln-dried pine shavings. Aspen shavings, Carefresh, or other bedding options are far better for cavies.

I pack old socks or nylons with these cedar shavings and throw anyplace around the house that is dark or warm; in closets, around baseboards, under sinks, in pantry, garage, to rid myself of moths, millers, spiders, CENTIPEDES (UGH) and it works great.

Easy to clean up, it's very convenient for me because I live on the top for of an apartment and I can just let my puppy on the back porch to use it real fast instead of going through the hassle of getting the leash on her and taking her out. Especially since we are in the potty training stage.

We bought this mat as a backup for when we can't get home in time to take out our old dog. It took our dog a week to begin to get use to the mat. It's easy to clean, just rinse it all out with steaming hot water in the shower (although each time I rinsed it I noticed a few of the "grass" blades went down the drain). I would fully recommend this product.

The first one got stepped on and broke, so I got another one. My old dogs (both passed away now) used this product regularly and took no time to learn what it was for. This one, I bought for my new puppy. She's not quite figured it out yet, but she's getting there. This is a great product, for anyone with dogs that get left alone for any length of time indoors.

I bought a different pen before this one but it wasn't available so I decided to buy this one so I could temporary enlarge my dogs' play area to accomodate guests. I didn't find it very sturdy and was concerned that it would come crashing down on the dogs so I had to put heavy objects around to anchor. I think it would have been okay outside and anchored into the grass but just didn't work well on the garage floor.

We needed something to corral our cats away from some carpeted areas, and this did the trick. Other pens were too small and the cats able to climb or leap over them. Not so with this pen.

I made the mistake of feeding my dogs a lot of people food over the years. I wanted to get them back on crunchy food to clean their teeth, and to make sure they are getting balanced nutrition. The problem is that they now turn their noses at even many of the better dog foods. I got a sample of this dog food to try, and they will even eat it like dog treats. Your mileage may vary, so it is best to try with a smaller bag to make sure that your dogs actually like it. However, it is worth a try!

5 star. Our vet recommended this product for our 8 year old male Golden Retriever. He had some stomach issues at the time and was a little over weight. We switched from Eukanuba. Since changing, the stomach issues have never come back, and he is at normal weight now.

When we adopted our dog six months ago, we went to both the local big box pet store and the boutique store in our neighborhood to read the ingredient labels of every bag of dog food. We knew we had to make an informed choice up front since it is so hard to change your dog's diet, especially when she is in that nervous phase between shelter life and home life. We found that the Pinnacle brand had the greatest balance of nutrition and edibility (i.e. actual food ingredients that would be easy to digest). Our dog loves it so far, it keeps well in our storage bin and all around it is nice to feed our dog something that we know is giving a solid nutritional foundation every day.

As a side note, this food is also a great size to use for training and to put inside chew toys. We found that some of the kibble size of some of the other brands were a little too big for this sort of use.

I have a small male dog who has a sensitive stomach and so far this is the only food it tolerates. Lower protein that what we were feeding seems to have cured the issue. Like I said it is a great food but it is on the expensive side.

Okay product, but wasn't as stuffed as the picture leads you to believe. My dogs are still happy with it, although my pitbull sinks to the floor. It is water resistant and does dry fast. The water bowl was spilled and water leaked under them. Within an hour after flipping them over each bed was dry.

The other customer is right. It is not as stuffed as the picture. Also, the measurements are off. It is smaller than what they say, by about 4 inches on length and width. I hope they let me return it for free.

We were desperate to teach our puppy how to tell us when he needed to go outside and this did the trick! He learned how to ring these bells within 15 minutes of hanging them on the door and he could not have been prouder of himself. However, after going to the grocery store for an hour and coming home, we found the yellow strap of the PoochieBells chewed in half and laying beside a big pile of... well, you know. The pup was obviously trying very hard to get the darned bells to open the door for him! I'd love to see a heavier strap, and faster grocery shopping.

I bought this control along with a K&H Lectro Soft Outdoor Bed, Large. I was afraid that the bed was designed for much colder weather and would be too warm for my cats to comfortably sleep on. It turns out that the thermostatic control built into the bed works very wellthe bed has maintained a perfect temperature for my cats, day and night.

If you're considering buying this control, do yourself a favor and give the bed a try for a week without it. If your pet frequently moves on/off the bed, then you could consider buying itbut most likely you'll discover the bed works perfectly without it.

Normally I don't write reviews but I had to comment because someone mentioned the door being hard to close. I own three of the gogo's along with two other brands and the gogo is the best quality and price. You don't have to bend over to close the door! Just slightly lift the door to open and close great for the back! There is also a middle latch to close but I never use this when the dogs sleep at night. Originally I thought the shipping was high but it's still a better price overall than purchasing at a store (or even Craigslist for that matter).

I purchased this crate for my 5 month old golden doodle puppy. I like the crate overall but unfortunately the door is extremely difficult to close. In order to close the door of the crate, the door mechanism needs to be lifted first while open, after lifting the door up 3 inches or so you need to swing the door closed, then you need to push down the door behind the side brace of the door and after all of that you push the lever across and through the hole. The door on this cage is so difficult to lift up and push down that I had to give it 3 stars. I am not sure if my crate is defective or if it just takes time to work itself loose. Either way, for almost 100 dollars (including shipping), I would expect it to function properly right out of the box.

Great product. Pretty heavy, but it's a heavy-duty crate so you really can't ask for more. The divider really is perfect for crate training our puppy we have only given her enough room to turn around and lie down in it (she only sleeps in it) and she hasn't had an accident in it once.

This product works great and looks beautiful! We used it to open up/block off an area by the back door (and their dog door) so they can come in and out from the heat. They get the much needed break from the 110+ temp out here in AZ and we don't have to worry that a boxer, a pit bull and a queensland heeler are eating our couches!

The only drawback was the price is a little high and the fact that it is very difficult to find hardware for it. We had to buy 2 of the 360* gates and an extension section to cover the amount of room we needed for the dogs. The extension part came with only 1 set of hardware, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer since it was our choice to buy so many pieces. To make a long story shortyou probably wont be able to find the hinges in your local hardware store. So if you're planning on putting many pieces togetherlike we didjust search Amazon for "double acting folding screen hinge" (3/4" with hardware so you get the right screws and the right fit).

I love this gate!! I have 2 dogs who do not touch our pressure mounted gatesone of them is a mastiff.

Some reviews said this gate seemed lightweight. I think it is not too heavynot too light. I move it around daily from one opening to another when guests come over & when we go up to bed. I love that I can move it entirely out of the way & it will stand on it's ownunlike my old gates that had to lean against the wall, damaging the wall. The latch is easily opened by people & dogs if they try itmy dogs don't touch it. I used to climb over a pressure gate 30 times a day & now, I just walk through the little door. The door is a bit narrow even for normal size people, but turning a little sideways is way better than climbing over a gate. Even though it's pricey, I got my money's worth in a few days.

SO happy I found this product! We have been looking for something to block off our stairs for a long time. We have a very difficult stairway to block off and needed something wide that we could configure around the area. The sections on this are narrow enough to allow for configuration around short areas without sticking out into the room. It is very sturdy, looks beautiful, easy to maneuver, and the gate is easy to open and close. We actually are using this for the purpose of keeping out 15 month old son away from the stairs. It is taller than most baby gates, and with the vertical bars he can not climb it or lean over it and fall. Our Samoyed doesn't even bother going near it, and our cat can't jump it (or she hasn't tried at least). The bottom is padded, which is great if it shifts so that it doesn't ruin our hardwood floors.

Yes, this gate is easy to move, but nearly all freestanding gates are! I have not tried every freestanding gate out there, but every one I have used/tried/seen has been very easy to move. That's why it's important to be able to configure it so that it will still function as you need it to. You may need to buy the extension to make it more secure for very wide areas. If you stretch it straight out it will not be very secure (again, neither will any freestanding gate) you must zig zag it to get extra stability.

Overall, for the price this is definitely a quality item! This is by far the most inexpensive freestanding configurable gate that is of at least decent quality. The cheaper ones are just that, cheap. This is a high quality gate for a great price.

I bought one of these gates a year ago and love it. It is truly furniture grade, with rounded, perfectly stained edges, and a locking mechanism that slides easily. I needed another and ordered one, but the one I received had rough edges, like the boards had been sawed but not sanded. The lock was difficult to slide, and moving the lock pushed the entire gate to the side, giving the impression that it will not last long before it breaks. So I sent it back thinking it was a fluke and ordered another one. The second one I received is the same poor quality. Obviously the manufacturer changed the design of the lock, and is not taking the time to produce the high quality product that they used to make. What a shame because it was a really nice product and I have to find another gate.

I love the gate. It is rich looking wood like a piece of furniture. It is light enough so I can move it out of the way easily. I needed to cover about 91" of opening so I ordered the extension but that is out of stock. The gate alone is working for now even with opening it so it just balances. I use a small basket to make up the difference in space because my easy-going golden has not tested the gate yet. She is fine with the barrier for now. The walk through panel is well done and easy to use. It is just what I wanted.
