Lots of misleading reviews out there on this product ... here's my experience:
Product was shipped with packing tape applied to the lid (a good thing, probably done in response to the bad reviews about leakage).
The factory seal was loose in spots and could definitely have released product during shipping, were it not for the tape applied to the lid.
Product only filled about 2/3 of the container ... much like potato chips never fill the bag. I have not weighed the canister but bet I have a "full" container ... this volume approximately matches the one I purchased at a local retailer three weeks ago.
This is a natural anti-flea treatment and contains essential oils with a VERY potent fragrance. Since there are no chemical poisons, this is the tradeoff you get a very spicy, clove-cinnamon smell from carpet it is applied to. If left on the carpet roughly 5 hours, it seems to be quite effective in killing fleas that are present, but yes, the aroma is strong and it dissipated about a day after being vacuumed up. In the meantime, I didn't find the spicy smell as obnoxious as many fake floral fragrances out there. ;)
So, all these factors in mind, I'm happy with the purchase just understand what you're buying. Amazon seems to have done a great job in mitigating negative reviews due to product loss during shipping and perhaps the manufacturer just need to look at new packaging.

I use this product in my chicken coop and I can say for a fact it kills all mites --we looked at them under the microscope.
You may not care for the smell but it is amazingly effective and very safe.

Man, for the size of the container and the price I thought I was going to get a lot more than just a cup of powder. I was able to lightly cover an area rug and the living room and now I'm out. I use the Sentry Natural Defense Natural Flea and Tick Spray for Dogs and Puppies, 8-Fluid Ounce which works very well, and considering this has all the same ingredients I'm sure this does it's job very nicely. I just feel kind of bamboozled for spending $15 bucks on a mostly empty bottle...I sure hope it works for awhile.

Summary: If you don't like pumpkin pie, don't buy this product. But for everyone else it is a great natural product that is effective to quickly kill fleas.
For the past two to three weeks I've been suffering insect bites at all times of day without ever seeing the culprit. I checked my pets (no sign of fleas) checked their bedding (ditto), checked my bedding (nothing), soaked the dog in the bath (no fleas), and was just overwhelmed with horrible visions of bed bugs and rat mites and I don't know what else.
I found this product at a big pet store and figured I would get it so I could feel like I was doing something about the bug bites. I didn't want to use any chemical pesticides without actually knowing what insect was biting me, so this natural option seemed like a good start.
I started out by applying it only on the carpet under my bed. This morning I woke up with 10 more bug bites! In desperation, I took the day off from work so I could seriously clean my house. I pulled everything apart, washed my cushions and linens and everything in high heat and a high heat tumble dry to kill whatever is eating me alive -all without seeing a single insect. Not one bug.
Then on my way up from my second load of laundry, I spotted something twitching along my hard wood floor. I got a close look at it and it was a nearly dead flea! I almost jumped for joy! It's not some horrible imaginary bug, it's just fleas. The only reason I was able to spot this one was because it was already dying -that was within 18 hours of my having dusted only the area directly under my bed.
I'm so glad that I bought this product. It is true that it has a strong odor. Honestly the smell is so strong that my husband was sure it had to be toxic. I handed him the package to look at and he noticed the same thing I did -it's made with essential oils (peppermint, cinnamon, lemon grass, clove, and thyme) so no wonder it's so powerful. We don't mind the lingering cinnamon/clove smell, but I know that if I brought my mom over she'd get a migraine in two seconds -she can't tolerate cloves or allspice in foods or fragrances.
I certainly understand why some people wouldn't prefer the scent, and it's absolutely true that the smell is potent even for those of us who find it delightful.
