This also works for me very well, but I had to use it for a while to get the hang of it. It's important to hold it at a 90 degree angle to the coat, brush in the direction that the fur is growing, apply a little bit of pressure and use the comb facing in the right direction. Some of our cats hate the wire brush I use, especially the one with diabetes who has tender skin, and it does seem to irritate all of them after a bit of use. The wire brush also makes noise as it passes over their fur which some of them don't like. They all seem to like this comb, it's silent, doesn't hurt, and does pull out a lot of big clumps of undercoat, leaving all five of our cats looking and feeling better than they ever have before. In fact, they like it! It naturally gets more fur out of the ones with thick undercoats, but I noticed it pulling fur out of the undercoats of the ones with thinner coats who usually don't have a lot of hair that comes out on a brush.

This comb is very small and it is a bit of a chore to get a whole cat done in one sitting. I would recommend using a bigger brush first to get out as much loose fur as possible then finish grooming with this. I have not tried the FURminator mentioned, but would still recommend having this around, too. It doesn't need batteries or electricity, it's cheap, and it's especially handy on areas harder to reach with a bigger brush or tool, ie around the haunches and tail area which seem to accumulate a lot of fur.

Other drawbacks are that it works on some parts of their bodies better than others (the sides were hard to get anything out of, as opposed to their backs) and only being able to use it in one direction can get tricky, because these guys like to turn around in circles when I comb them, so I have to do some maneuvering to stay in the right position. Nice alternative to petting in front of the tv, anyway. :)

I got mine at Walgreens.

i got this for my cat (ocicat breed). he's a short-haired cat that doesn't generally need much grooming except when the season changes. shedender worked just like the commericals. one brush and fur goes flying everywhere. it does remove hair however the teeth of the comb are not deep so the removed hair goes either flying or stays on top of the fur towards the back. as u can see in the picture the tool is small. if you have the patience and extra time (and if your pet has the patience too!) u can think about saving some money with this tool. if you want something more efficient, invest some extra money and go for the furminator instead. i bought both and compared them but i'm keeping my furminator despite the much higher price.

I dont know what the other two guys issue was with this item but I had no problem at all. I have a pug and the little guy sheds like there is no tomorrow. I bought this thing at my local mall for 9.99 and tried it out today. It was awsome, the amount of fur that came off of him was nuts, I had a pile of hair that was the size of my pug. He loved it and seemed to want more even after I stoped. I am going to assume that the other two bad reviews here are pure user error, it has to be. This item works great and I would recomend it to anyone that has a pet with a sheding problem.

I tried the tool and it is junk. The way the handle holds the blade, you can't control the angle and it is very difficult to use. The caps covering the screws both fell off and the handle feels hard and cheap. I tried a friend's furminator and it worked 10 times better.

What a great grooming tool! I bought it because I have three long-haired cats and always seem to be vacumming up hair. The Shed Ender got down to the undercoat, just like it claimed. I was absolutely amazed at how much fur I pulled out of their coats! I had brushed them with a regular brush before I started, and gotten very little hair off. The Shed Ender removed piles and piles of hair in fact, the pile of hair was almost as big as my cat! It took a little practice to get the hang of how to use it, but I was very impressed with the results. It takes some time to go through the animal's whole coat, but it's toally worth it!

Other reviewers said they liked the Furminator better, but it costs quite a bit more. I went to a local pet store to check out the prices of the Furminator, and the least expensive one (the smallest) was $34.95 (versus the same size Shed Ender at $9.99!). I say, try the Shed Ender first you'll love it!
