Our cat had 3+ gingivitis. The vet recommended dental cleaning with general anesthesia (procedure + anesthesia = $600; pre-op labs $600; total $1200). I asked for a 1-yr. postponement, and, during the next 12 months, my family & I were conscientious in the use of the Clearquest Dental Solution in the cat's drinking water along with chewable (hard) dental treats & enzyme-containing dental treats. After 1 year, the vet retracted her recommendation for dental cleaning & was pleased, as well as impressed, with the improvement in our cat's dental condition. We have continued our regimen, & dental care is no longer mentioned at the yearly check-ups.
This product can be used with our dogs as well. It does not contain the ingredient associated with liver damage. Taste of the treated drinking water has not been an issue from the beginning.

I've been using this since my 4 year old Maltese was just a puppy. Her teeth are still in excellent condition. . . no need for professional cleaning and no 'doggie breath'. Wish I would have found this for my previous Maltese because they constantly had to have their teeth cleaned and had mouth odor.This really works!!

One veterinarian told us that cats won't drink water with this and similar products in it. We decided to try it anyway. Our 13-year-old cat was beginning to get light gingivitis, and she had a bit of tartar. We add 1/2 tablespoon to 12 ounces of fresh water to her cleaned water bowl every evening. That is the proportion suggested on the bottle. The cat seems not to notice any change at all in the water taste, and she is a finicky cat. We have been using this in conjunction with Greenies dental treats every day for a couple of weeks now. Her mouth is much healthier than it was.One of the worst things you can do to an older cat is to let her start having serious dental problems. They often are strongly associated with being fed canned cat food. We use only dry food and dental treats, with a rare can of tuna cat food a couple of times a year as a special treat.
