I bought this crate for my miniature dachshund. He fits in it perfectly, not too small not too big. The material that it's made of does feel flimsy because it has some flex to it but I guess, this is to make the carrier as light as possible. The structural integrity seems fine though, specially after piecing everything together. The latches lock on with no problem. I started walking around with it with my dog inside and it felt pretty solid even when I was bouncing around a bit when running up and down the stairs. The water/food tray that it came with is more suitable for little hamsters or birds because of its size. I mean you wouldn't be able to put in more than a shot glass full of water in each container. Nice touch I guess, but wouldn't really be practical/usable (at least in my case). The little compartment on the top of the crate is a nice little add-on as well since you can store your "poop bags" in it or a simple leash. It would not be able to fit a retractable because of the size. I like the little seatbelt slot on top of the crate as well. I think it'll keep the crate secure and prevent it from moving around while travelling. I'm not sure yet though since I haven't tried it yet in my car. All in all, this crate was a good-value purchase. I would definitely buy one again and would recommend it to friends.

This is a good size for most cats. I have two and I'll be getting more for my multi-cat household. Pay attention to the actual measurements and measure your pet! There should be room for Fluffy or Fido to stand up and turn around. The medium size works for my cats from 6-19 lbs. Also, beware. I do NOT think this carrier meets airline regulations. If they do, they usually advertise that prominently. So if you are needing this for airline travel, please check further before you order!

I am returning this crate because after running a few errands around town with my dog in it, I feel she is too cramped for comfort. Because of the rounded shape of the kennel, the floor area is a lot less than you would think. I measured the interior width at its widest point and it is just 13" (Large size advertised width is 18.6"). The width is only 12" at the door and far end. I wrote the rest of this review before doing a test drive. I still feel it's a pretty good kennel for the money.

I bought the Large. The measurements on amazon were accurate: 26.2 x 18.6 x 16.5, but the dog sizing is off or misleading. Note that the measurements are all exterior measurements, including every last speck of plastic protruding outward, so the interior space is reduced.

Amazon says it's for dogs up to 15" tall. Every crate I've seen uses the shoulder height so that's what I assumed it meant, and that's the normal way to measure a dog. On the actual crate label it has a diagram showing a dog being measured at the shoulder and it gives 12" measurement. It gives dog length as 21" from tip of snout to back heel.

I think this will be OK for my dog because it's for in the car and I want her to lie down in it while we're driving. The interior is about the same size as a soft-sided kennel (Firstrax Port-A-Crate E2 Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home, 24-Inch ) we use as a voluntary den at home so I know she can walk in and turn around. (The shape of the Firstrax gives a full-size floor that takes a 24 by 18 crate pad--the Petmate loses quite a lot of floor space, mostly in width but even in length.) It will not be conducive to sitting upright or standing (my dog is about 14" at the shoulder).

(I set it up in my living room and secured the door in an opened position and my dog is now napping in there! A good sign.)

I found it somewhat difficult to assemble. It was hard guiding the door posts into the little holes while simultaneously lowering the top into place. Mine did not want to sit right but it finally did. Then it was quite hard to secure the plastic latches. It would be very easy to think one was latched when it was not. I would not dream of just casually dismantling this thing and I believe its lifespan would be seriously reduced if I did that regularly.

One of my plastic clasp/latches was all the way off the crate and it was hard to reseat it. I broke the little storage compartment on the top of the carrier the first time I tried it out. It sort of stuck part way open and as I applied just a little pressure, one end of the hinge broke and went flying.

Mine came with no directions; they can be found online. I have an email in to petmate about the warranty since I have nothing in writing. Their website and the online instruction sheet say it has a 5 year warranty.

The seat belt slot looks like a joke and there are no instructions about how to use it. It appears that the kennel would have to sit with the door facing forward to somehow insert the seat belt in the slot. I have some alternate ideas about how to secure it in the car.

For the money, it's not bad. Don't try to use it for a dog who will try to escape. I think they could easily chew their way out or tease at the seat belt slot and enlarge it. It's nice and light so it will be easy for me to remove it from my car when not needed. I would NEVER carry this crate while an animal was in it--I can't speak for the smaller size crates, but certainly don't think you can haul a 20 lb. animal around by the crate handle.

It is made in USA.

I ordered 2 of these for two separate places... for convenience. I looked into several different crates. This one was the most reasonably priced. A comparable crate was twice the money at Petco. It is a very lightweight, light duty kennel. It would not be one to use for a bigger dog or heavy use. My toy poodle is 10 pounds, however, they need to be able to stand and turn inside the crate so this was the smallest crate I could use, even though it notes "ok" for dogs 20 to 25 pounds... I would question that. It arrived as agreed and in good condition. I will say that you really need 4 hands to put together as it is flimsy to hold and try to clip. Because of how it clips with plastic clips it will not withstand abuse.

I purchased two of these to replace some smaller pet mate carriers as our "fur kids" have grown. I have two ragdoll cats weighing 12 and 14 pounds and this SHOULD have been great to hold them. I wanted some room for them to be able to stretch out. Unfortunately I would click one side down and by the time I got to the other one or two came undone...I can't imagine trusting to place my pets in them. I tried both carries that were sent and neither worked well. It seems that the "lip" that the latch hooks onto is almost non-existent compared to previous pet mate carriers I have owned. This model also doesn't have the holes under the latches that you can opt to use zip strip thru for extra security. I ended up returning them for a different model
