I've been using this tool for years to get the mats out of my dogs. I have never cut myself, and I'm not overly careful. This is the only tool I know of to get tough mats out without cutting them out with scissors. I highly recommend it.

I hate this tool. I attempted to use this a few times on my dogs, and it is worthless for dematting. I have long hair dogs, so maybe it is just not meant for long hair. I spent the extra money to get the PetEdge brand, because I've heard they are the best. However, I've seen no great difference between PetEdge, and the cheap ones you can buy at Walmart. I wouldn't recomend this product, and now it just sits in the drawer and I never use it. If you are looking for a good dematting tool buy the Master Grooming Tools Steel Dematting Coat Mat and Tangle Splitter it works great on long hair.

this doesn't work well at all on my long haired cat -I thought it might be a gentler way to detangle her fur, but it doesn't grab the matted area at all
