This has been a great chain. We have used it for our 60 lb dog for about a year. It is sturdy. The length is measured from ring to ring when the chain is fully extended. It has about 18" of neck space. I would definitely purchase again. In fact I am about to since the dog has grown and we need the next size up.Apparently it runs small and is made of a strange, light-weight material that feels cheap and flimsy. Try another one.
