Ok so I got this device for my indoor "bad" cats who started using my dining room instead of their perfectly clean litter boxes. They had a perfect track record until recently.

Well, I tried several chemical pherimore dispersers, other non-harmful devices.... and not one of them worked in the slighest!!

I don't like cats but through a bizarre comedy of errors I find myself the co-owner of four of them. Their greatest joy in life is to climb around the counters after being in the litter box with the hope that we accidentally forgot a steak in the sink. Just after dawn the light hits our kitchen counters at the perfect angle to reveal a well worn path of little white paw prints going back and forth from the sink, to the stove, and back to the sink. It's as if old Bil Keane had snuck into our home and drawn one of those Family Circus comics for cats that retrace their mischievous steps as they wreaked havoc in the kitchen. The penalty where I live for animal cruelty that results in

substantial bodily harm to a pet or companion animal is imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of $3,000, or both so beating them was out of the question. One morning I finally snapped and decided to give the Catscram a try. I told the cats about this ahead of time. It was like when I was a kid and my mother would threaten me with the old, "Wait until your Father gets home!" line after I threw a fire cracker down the laundry chute. I kept telling them, "You just wait until the Catscram gets here. Then you'll be in trouble." The product showed up surprisingly fast within four days of ordering it so that was nice. I can't express how excited I was to get it in my hands. I set it up before even taking my coat off. "Let the sonic torture begin." I giggled to myself. So what were the results you ask? Cat Number One hates The Catscram like most Americans hate Osama Bin Laden. The second it goes of he bolts out of the kitchen and won't come out of hiding for at least 20 minutes. Cat Two and Cat Three are mildly irritated with it to the point where they will leisurely get off the counter when it goes off. Cat Number Four, who happens to be the worst behaved of the four cats, apparently thinks it's a new toy for him to play with on the way to the sink and it has no effect at all. So does it work? Yes and no. Reviews that say categorically (no pun intended) it works all the time or doesn't work at all are stupid to the point of being lacking any credibility. It depends on your cat. Any cat owner will tell you that they are fickle creatures with unique personalities and souls as black as night and because of this there is no one size fits all solution. I won't be returning it, but I probably won't be using it a lot either because it won't work in my situation. If you have a cat like Cat Number One get it because it will work. If you have a cat like Cat Number Four whose only goal in life it to bug you in between his frequent naps (and apparently can't hear anything) then don't get it because it will just be a paperweight.

Bought this as my rescue cat had peed on the basement, bedroom and living room carpets. The Catscram gets an A+. I set it up at the bottom of the basement stairs where there is no door to keep him out. He followed me down like always, but then he paused and kind of looked around and then SHOT back up the stairs! He has not gone down there since in almost 2 months. I moved the Catscram into the doorway of my newly-remodeled bedroom to see if it would keep him out. (I had finally gotten the urine smell out by getting rid of the old carpet and pad and then trying several products on the subfloor had best success with Arm&Hammer pet stain remover before sealing with 2 coats of Kilz and then a polyurethane sealant on top. He went to the bedroom door and came inside, but then again stopped and looked around before retreating back down the hall! I can now leave the door open and he won't go in. Sorry it hasn't worked for other people, but it did the trick for me!

We have three cats, one adult, two kittens well, 8 months old now. The older cat knew the house rules and was no problem, our girl kitten was very docile and rarely broke the "rules" which are basically no cats on counters, dining room table and coffee table. Our problem was the young male kitten..he seemed to not care at all..he was very aware of what he shouldn't be doing, he would hear us approach the room and quick jump off the counter or whatever. He also LOVED baked treats..apple pie topping -ate half, blueberry muffins ate 2, even ate through a sandwich bag to get vanilla wafers! He also knew when I would be out of the house for extended periods of time which would be long enough for him to eat whatever on the counter or table. SO we purchased the Catscram for him. It seems to have worked! We have a "trap" of bacon grease left in a open pot on the stove, which he has nibbled at before the Catscram. Whenever I leave the house or room for a while, I set the Catscram at an angle so it will go off if he is on the counter. I can't hear a noise, unless i angle the speaker right in front of my ear, but the cats hear something, their ears turn to the noise. I don't know the range of the sound either, but cats in the living room resting do not seem to be affected by the noise in the kitchen, so that is nice. Not only has our troublesome boy stopped going on the counter, his other problem behaviors have stopped too, like dragging my towels and washcloths off the bar or out of the laundry basket and running away with them. I've also used it to block off the entrance to rooms I dont want the cats in, also works. The only downside is the small range, I mean, it only detects so far which is nice but if there are multiple problem areas, you will need multiple Scrams.

We have 4 cats and this unit repels all of them. What is amazing to me is that one of our cats is very old and cannot hear the vacuum cleaner, us yelling or clapping our hands, but she hears this thing and runs. Apparently her high frequency hearing is still there (your results may vary).

You'll want to position the unit facing the area that you want cat free, but away from room traffic to avoid false alarms. For example if you have a problem corner, put it out a few feet from the area and aim it at the area instead of putting it in the corner aiming out. This is less practical as it might be in the middle of a room, but it's the most effective since the cat will only hear the alarm once it goes to that spot. If it's going off all the time or when they are just walking by, they will learn to ignore it or simply get stressed out by it which might cause other behavioral issues. It picks up movement from 8-10 feet out without any problem. After some time, the cats will avoid the area altogether so you can remove it and use it elsewhere if necessary. I rotate mine around so the cats don't figure out that any particular area is no longer "protected".

My batteries last about 6 months or so and it can be hard to tell when they are getting low since we can't hear it. I suspect the sound weakens some before the indicator light goes out as the batteries die off. So if your cat starts ignoring it you might want to try fresh batteries before thinking it's toast. This might be part of the problem other reviewers have had, especially if they got a unit that was sitting on a shelf or in hot weather for a while before they purchased it. Batteries lose capacity when stored this way.

In closing, this unit will stop cats from going to areas you don't want them going to, but it can't always fix a behavioral issue all by itself. For example, if your cat stops using the litter box and decides to use your bathroom rug instead, the CatScram will stop her from using the rug, but won't necessarily stop her from choosing another (bad) spot. This is just one of many methods to help you get your cat to behave, but you may have to do some trial and error (including a Vet checkup to rule out health issues) to solve the problem.
