I go on work trips often and my roomate was tired of feeding the cat while I was out of town. Picked this feeder up hoping it would solve the problem.

New problem, my cat is now fat. The feeder nozzle is wide enough for cats to reach up inside of and pull out as much food as they want. It doesn't take a clever cat, just a hungry one to figure it out. If the nozzle was designed slightly thinner or with a bend or divider so cats cant stick their paw up it, it'd be great. As it is... I might as well just leave an open bag of cat food on the floor for her when I leave.

I purchased this thinking that the auger-style dispenser would be better than the "flap" type, but the since it consists an inch-wide tube with a wire auger, small pellet food (like Science Diet) will drop out with the slightest touch. Which your cat will quickly learn. Maybe it is OK for larger pellet sizes.

This is a great machine. The hopper is secure and the unit is solid well made and dishwasher safe. There is one step in the instuctions that is crucial not to skip. After you set the clock time you MUST wait 60 seconds, like it says, before proceeding. Then set the feed amounts. Then go back and set the feed times. If you set the feed times right after you set the clock time, it will NOT auto feed. Took me a while to figure out why it wasn't working. After I removed the batteries and started all over I realized the step I missed. Now it works great and I can go on my trip without any worries. And kitty loved it right from the start.

We bought this feeder, because we were going out of town and since our cat was spayed last year she has doubled in size. So, obviously we couldn't leave a lot of food out for her like we use to do, because she would probably eat it all in one sitting. With this recent weight gain she has been put on M/D prescription diet and only eats 1/3 cup of food a day, split into 2 meals. Because of her small portion size and the fact that her food kibble is tiny as well, we had trouble finding a feeder that would work for her situation. I was a little hesitant to buy it at first due to the majority of reviews claimed that the feeder was very difficult to program and one review even said there was a step left out of the directions. In fact I had no problems programming it and had it up and running in under 10 minutes. It is such a nice feeder that we have decided to use it daily. At first she was a little scared of the sound it makes while it is dispensing the food, but after a couple of days she was fine and now she runs to the feeder as soon as she hears it. I'd definitely recommend this feeder.

I purchased this to put in our barn for the barn cats while we are away for a few months. I first set it up in the house for about a week to figure out how many days it would dispense the food before the hopper needed to be refilled; then, I had a person scheduled to check on it each week to keep the hopper filled. I didn't like the instructions for programming it, and hope the batteries last until we return so this other person doesn't have to try to figure it out after changing the batteries. It is set to dispense a good meal in the morning, a "snack" at 3 p.m. and another larger amount in the evening. I did remove the bowl, then made a "chute" for the food to slide down onto a board, since there are several cats that will be eating all at once. With the size of the morning and evening meals, the food would pile up too high in the bowl and slow down the dispensing mechanism. Removing the bowl gives more room for all the cats, and it doesn't pile up quite so high. It's been dispensing cat food for about 1 month and seems to be working fine. Hopefully it will hold up and keep our cats happy until we return.
