I got this toy box because it looked cute and was made out of wood. However, the color is no where near the "red" the picture on the box shows. Instead it's a kind of brownish color. It has several nicks and scratches on it and whoever did "paint" it did a terrible job. There are paint strokes going in different direction, and it looks like they tried to clean off excess paint at the bottom. Also when I opened the box there was a strong smell of moth balls. I realized it was coming from the Styrofoam sheets they used to separate the wood panels in the box. Got rid of those, then had to open windows and turn on the ceiling fan. The only reason I'm not returning this is because it is made out of wood. I'm rather handy , and I am going to my local craft store to get some red paint, and re-paint it myself. This should also take care of the nicks and scratches, and hopefully it will look like what I thought I ordered. Got to get busy! The puppy turns a year old next week! (yes I'm one of those sappy pet owners)

The box came in damaged which meant the materials inside were damaged. My biggest problem is that the color is not red as shown online, it is more of a burnt orange which does not match my décor. I am returning it.

I ordered this because I wanted a wooden box and liked the appearance of this one. Earlier reviewers had identified its actual color as brownish-orange, which matches our color scheme better than the red would have. When it arrived, the corner of one board was slightly cracked and discolored, but still usable. The assembly instructions are entirely pictorial and omitted some vital info about inserting the plug-screws, so I got pretty frustrated putting it together, but luckily my husband came home from work and knew the trick (the longer part of the cross has to be pointed toward the pin). Now that it's assembled, I think it looks pretty good. I gave it only 3 stars because of the instructions and the damage. You can't see the damage now that the box is set up, but for $40, it shouldn't be there at all.
