The other reviews on the larger crate of this type were over all, very good. So I decided to purchase the crate as a replacement to the old style plastic, non folding crate I had been using before. I will say, the fold-ability of this wire crate is very convenient. It makes traveling with the crate much easier being able to fold it away flat and neatly. I bought this medium size iCrate for my Beagle, he really liked his old crate, but after having this new wire crate for a few months, he still doesn't like it very much and is always trying to get out. This crate does fit him nicely though, he's not too cramped and at the same time has enough room to stand up, turn around, etc. The construction of the crate is solid and the removable bottom tray is nice, but he's able to escape from this crate with ease. A few times he got out and I was not sure how he did it until I put him in, and watched from around the corner. For minutes he will lick the hinge of the crate door, essentially lubricating the hinge. All it takes after that is pawing at the door furiously until the hinge slides out. I couldn't believe it. I blame this partly on the hinge construction being one flat piece and not having any hooks to latch to or something like that, I have seen other similar crates with the hinge that slide in, then turns to latch down, this one does not. The other part, I blame on the darned Beagle being to smart for his own good. I have to now use two carabineers to latch the doors closed completely so that he can not escape. Unfortunately due to this major design flaw, I give the crate 3 stars. It's well built, but could use improvement.Tuesday, January 21, 2014
Midwest Double Door i-Crate Reviews
Our family most recently got a new puppy (miniature Aussie Shepherd.) Awaiting his arrival we did a lot of reading up on products and advise. Knowing that he would reach 16'' in height (foot to shoulder) at full growth, we wanted to get the medium size crate that could be adjusted with it's inside divider wall and grow along with him. It's amazing how quickly he's already grown in the past few weeks (now 12 weeks old) as we are about to move the divider a little more. He likes to stretch out during his sleep. We also like the versatility of the 2-doors which allows us to position the crate anywhere in our home. A wise purchase for us and if in doubt what to do ... this is a no brainer! We enhanced the crate with a crate cover, too ...
