I have been using this for my 11 1/2 year old Great Dane for a year and a half. I am a dog trainer and former veterinary nurse/technician. I did not want to use Proin or PPA for her urinary incontinence because it has been proven to cause strokes in people and thus was discontinued for human use. She had urinary incontinence on and off for years, and she is a VERY old Great Dane. Leaks No More has worked beautifully for the last 1.5 years and has caused no side effects. Every dog is different, but for mine and others I know, it has worked quite well. Please research reviews for this product online and you'll find an overwhelming endorsement for the it. I have found it to be an incredible alternative to a dangerous traditional medication. Good luck to all using it!

My 85 lb 4 year old GSD was leaking all over the house making us very frustrated. We made a plastic lined cover for his bed and all the poor dog heard was "get on your bed." This started a year ago and the vet put him on antibiotics a few times and things would improve for a short time and then come back. Next the vet put him on Proin (PPA) which made him anxious and edgy. It also only improved things about 75% and only for about two weeks and then the leaking came back. We called the vet again who increased the dose. Worked for about a week at 75% and then we were back to the same amount of leaking. Honestly, if the Proin had just worked I never would have moved onto anything else. At that stage (out of desperation) I looked on the web for all possible solutions. One of the products I tried was leaks no more. That was maybe minimally helpful, but didn't change things enough to make any real difference.

As to the next section I am not a vet and this is not medical advice. This is just a description of what I've found.

First let me tell you the one thing I found that has made a major difference apple cider vinegar. One tablespoon per 50 pounds a dog a day was the recommended dose from one site I read. Now most dogs are not going to take ACV straight, needless to say. I give it to him this way twice a day I put a tablespoon of ACV in about a cup of water, mix some chicken broth or canned food in it and pour it over his food like gravy. He slurps it all down without a problem. Some people put it in their dogs water dish and even at lower doses they have had success. My dog wasn't drinking enough for that to make any difference.

Now our GSD's leaking problems have improved 90-95%. He still leaks right after peeing, but we make sure he's finished all that before he comes in the house. His leaking while just sitting, standing, or laying on his bed awake has stopped and when he wakes up in the morning there is a small damp spot on his washable cover, but nothing like it used to be. While he was on Proin we started this. Within a few days I saw improvement, within two weeks he was off the Proin totally. Really it seemed the Proin wasn't doing anything for him at all! We're using organic Braggs from raw apple cider, mostly because I think the taste is more palatable than the processed stuff from the store and it's supposedly has better healing properties. Honestly though, because I didn't have much faith when I started this, I just tried the cheap stuff from the grocery store and saw improvement pretty quickly.

In a lot of ways it makes sense because it's very similar to women who have regular urinary tract infections being told to drink cranberry juice to raise the acidity levels of their urine to fight bacteria. Another recommendation I found on the web was cranberry caps from the health food store. I didn't try that but I assume the reasoning is similar to the ACV.

I also tried corn silk, which was a common recommendation. I bought a pound of the stuff from amazon to try it. I mixed it in with canned food and our dog ate it pretty well, but it didn't really improve anything. Maybe someone else would have success with that. Also be aware that some dogs are allergic to corn so check that before you give them any.

Since people have had good success with leaks no more I tried to see if that would push him to 100%. Again maybe minor help. Since LNM is expensive and the main ingredient is Plantago Major I decided to go to our local herb store and pick up powdered plantago major (it's dirt cheap and you can get it from Amazon too) and make my own tincture. (powder mixed with either vodka or apple cider vinegar which is shaken daily for two weeks and then strained. you can see how to make tinctures on youtube there are several videos) This is much stronger than LNM as LNM is homeopathic and has very minimal amounts of actual ingredients in it. I put a few drops a couple of times a day in a small amount of broth and our dog drinks it and licks the plate. Some improvement not 100%.

Search the web for other alternatives if you want. Corn silk and apple cider vinegar seem to be the most often recommended.

One more thing. When I took urine samples into the vet they were dark brown (making the staining on the carpet worse aargh) I asked the vet about it, but he said it didn't mean anything. Actually it does. It meant that our dog was not drinking much water and was running dehydrated. I realized he was hardly drinking any water from his bowl. His urine was very concentrated. It also meant that he wasn't clearing out his urinary tract often enough and became more prone to infections. Adding liquid to his meals and taking him out more often has helped that quite a bit. He's actually gotten used to drinking more water on his own now, and his urine is a much lighter color. It was just another piece to the puzzle.

I can't guarantee my solutions will help anyone else. Also I know that because our dog is larger I have more leeway on adjusting quantities of vinegar and plantago major than someone with a smaller dog might have. Overdosing your dog on ACV can make your dog's urine too acidic. Finally our vet's position is simple just increase the Proin until all problems are solved. However Proin seems like a dangerous drug to me and just increasing the dose higher and higher makes me very uncomfortable. Did you know that Proin is the old diet drug dexatrim that was pulled from the market because it gave people strokes? Our vet says there are no problems with dogs taking it. Frankly I don't buy it.

I have two female Leonbergers--one was born with a small urinary leakage; the other is nearly 10 and began to have a problem after her spay. Instead of using the PPA drug which has side effects, I tried them both on Leaks No More and was astonished how well it works. The young one no longer has any leakage while the older one has very tiny amounts. I never miss a dose because it makes their lives so much better and they smell great--no more urine smell. I highly recommend this if your dog has any leakage. It's all natural so no side effects which is my main concern.

My poor 12 year old Shepard Mix was having accidents when she was sleeping. At first it was just once in a while but continued to get worse to all the time and multiple times a day. I don't know who felt worse, her for having an "accident" or me having to wash bedding every day. Her vet wanted to put her on a prescription. I did some research and found that so many dogs had had terrible side effects from the drug. I would hate the thought of curing one problem only to have something life threating occur. I did some looking and found "Leaks No More" and thought I would try it first. It did take about a week or more before I saw much of a difference but over time we saw fewer accidents. After the first month we were having no more "accidents". It has been about 12 weeks now and still no accidents. We use the drops just once a day now. If you need an easy way to give the drops to your dog get the capsule size Greenies Pill Pockets put the drops in and seal shut. If you have a small dog you can get the smaller pockets.
